UKSCA Accreditation Assessment Day
Went down to Lee Valley Athletic Centre yesterday to take part in the UKSCA, UK Strength & Conditioning Association accreditation assessments. The day consisted of 4 elements, an Exam paper, Presentation & Case Study, Speed & Plyo coaching session and Olympic Weightlifting.
My case study was over a 3 month period during a young basketball players general preparation phase last year, lots of questions were asked by the assessor and I answered them to back my ideas and rationale for the programmes and planning.
For the Speed & Plyo assessment I had to choose a number 1-5 to select a sport I was to design a session for, I choose 4, that meant Rugby. Coached another athlete through my chosen drills and again answered various questions about my what, why I did and said things & explaining my understanding.
The Olympic Lifting section was great, I got to go into the weights room, its a fantastic facility. I was asked to demonstrate various Olympic Lifting lifts and techniques and then to explain in detail the coaching points and the body positions during the lifts.
Day went well and feeling confident. I find out the results of all 4 element in 2-3 weeks.
The UKSCA competencies and assessment process have been developed with the strength and conditioning staff from the Home Country's Institutes of Sport and major Governing Bodies of Sport. This process was supported by UK Sport. As such it has fast become the accepted standard for strength & conditioning practitioners in the UK.
