Simon’s Cape

So, I’m having a really difficult time figuring out the material used in Simon’s cloak here and in the first episode of the series.

  I can’t use wool, but had considered using a military blanket. Burlap is too rough and air blows right through it: so not practical. Is it perhaps some kind of thick cotton material? What do you think it would be made of, and do you know what it is called so I can buy it?

...I wonder if the milk-plastic trick would be useful for custom cosplay pieces. You know, the one involving milk and vinegar that makes a casein substance that is nigh unbreakable? I wonder if I could dye it pink and make copious amounts of fake Kitkats.
