The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge undertook a variety of engagements in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The couple wanted to hear about how how various organisations are promoting positive community relations in the area.
The Cambridges’ visited Ulster University, where they met with nursing and medical students. They also visited the new School of Medicine, established in response to the Covid pandemic, where William and Catherine heard how the students been enjoying being back on campus after months of remote learning.
They also visited the campus’ petting zoo, known as Kidz Farm, which exists to support those with mental health issues and anxiety disorders. During their visit, William confessed George would be jealous that he was able to hold a snake, while Catherine held a tarantula called Charlotte. The Duke and Duchess also stated they had turned their home into a “petting zoo” during the Covid-19 lockdowns.
William and Catherine then visited the Ulster University Student Union, where they took part in a “culture shock” event. The couple enjoyed some Guinness and some whiskey, as well as wheaten bread and word games. They also had a go at pronouncing some Irish names!
For their second engagement, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Derry Rugby Club to meet those involved with Sport Uniting Communities. The couple had a go at kicking some rugby balls, and watched children participate in a variety of sports
