Today marks 14 years since the Ben 10-10-10 marathon, which is when we first got to see Ultimate Aggregor. This whole arc with the Andromeda 5, Aggregor and Ultimate Kevin after was just PEAK Ultimate Alien!
Aggregor, mad god of the cosmos.
Something I think that is often glossed over is just how merciful Ben is.
I've seen other characters that fall into the teenage superhero genre, who are much less powerful than Ben, show less mercy to their opponents, even if they are dealing with a situation involving lower stakes.
Contrary to the popular theory that the Ultimatrix made Ben more aggressive (which is an interesting point to explore on its own, though I don't believe it would override his character to any extreme extent), Ultimate Alien had several examples of this since the stakes in a lot of those events were pretty high, and Ben was given arguably even more power than before due to the Ultimate function of his watch.
The purpose of ultimate aliens is to utilize their powers to the greatest extent and survive in the harshest circumstances, right?
So there must be a lot of control and responsibility that goes into the decision to use those powers for whatever reason. Similarly, the decision to show mercy in itself involves the responsibility of understanding one’s power and strength.
In "Map of Infinity", after Aggregor succeeds in absorbing the powers of the five Andromeda aliens and potentially killing them, Ben attacks Aggregor to avenge them, transformed into base form Humungousaur.
I specify that because, despite the high stakes of what Aggregor has done, and what he now has the power to proceed to do, Ben doesn't go ultimate in this scene.
Even if that was because of the slim hope he had that the absorbed aliens were still somewhat alive or salvageable, he still held back and didn't do as much damage to Aggregor as he could have with Ultimate Humungousaur’s abilities.
Ben isn’t lenient with dangerous offenders, but he knows the limits to his use of force.
Another example were his fights with Ultimate Kevin - who defeated Ultimate Aggregor, proving he was a greater threat, or, at the very least, more powerful.
Now that Ultimate Kevin had all of Ben's powers, and his mental state was clouding his judgement, he was using them to the greatest extent. He was only shown holding back occasionally when whatever was left of his human emotions towards Gwen momentarily cut through that clouded judgement.
But regardless, Ultimate Kevin having access to all of the same powers as Ben, and being considered a threat for it, just further shows how power Ben is, and how dangerous his power is in the hands of someone lacking control.
Despite knowing this, there is a scene in “Absolute Power: Part 2” where Ben, in human form, comes right up to Ultimate Kevin just to apologize before Kevin takes the chance to break free.
I know the fandom loves to hound Ben for allegedly being “willing” to kill Kevin (even though his choice in actions actively disprove his alleged willingness to kill someone), but his actions speak much louder than his words.
He absolutely could have gone much harder on Kevin than he did. No one would stop him because no one could stop him - that was the whole point of having him fight Gwen with his powers.
It was to show that, while she can effectively hold her own, ultimately, she wouldn't be able to physically hold him back - not just because he's potentially stronger, but because she cares too much about not hurting him.
Maybe this gave people the impression that Ben doesn't care about hurting people, but, considering what he ultimately chooses to do, that doesn't seem to be right in Ben’s case, either.
Against Gwen, Ben used Chromastone, Nanomech, NRG, Terraspin, and Way Big. The last one probably seemed to be the most threatening of the list, but, again, all he really did was break through her mana shield. He wasn’t beating her down with his fists - he was just holding her back.
The aliens Ben used to fight Ultimate Kevin were Armodrillo, Jetray, Humungousaur, Ultimate Humungousaur, NRG, Big Chill, Spidermonkey, Echo Echo and Ultimate Echo Echo.
While the abilities of these aliens can still allow the wielder to hold their own, they aren’t Ben’s strongest, most heavy hitters, either. Ultimate Humungousaur was arguably the most powerful out of the list, but he wasn’t even being used to take Kevin down permanently, and he didn’t even get a chance to fire any missiles, either.
Ben had every opportunity to end Kevin once and for all, but he didn't.
He said he had the power to, and that he could make it as quick and painless as possible, but ultimately, he didn't do it.
As shown, Gwen wasn't even in his way as she couldn’t defeat him in battle, but he still didn't resort to desperate measures against Kevin.
The only one stopping him was himself, and his own sense of mercy.
I just want everyone to remember that Kevin saved the universe.
A fast sketch and color of one of my OCs from my on-going Ben 10 fic “Elevator Monologue”.
This is Aggrenna, Aggregor’s eldest child that he had with a Null Void settler after his defeat at the Forge of Creation in Ultimate Alien.
I tried to make her expression something along the lines of “I’m just done with everyone’s shit” but I think its just came off as angsty sad-girl. Angst is literally the only thing I know how to do. In art or writing.
Round 2 of my Ben 10 conversations with @pinky-keene, this time lamenting the lack of development on Osmosians and general absence of world-building.
OC Spotlight: Shirahk
In the current fic he's only 12 years old, but in the design he's drawn as a teenager. This sketch is more in alignment with what he looked like when Kenny dragged Devlin to the future in chapter 13.
I also feel I should point out that in this sketch he's holding Aggregor's spear, but at the point in the story we’re currently at, that spear is still in a Plumbers evidence/weapons locker somewhere.
Like Devlin inherited Kevin’s original mutation and can transform back and forth between the two at will, so did Shirahk. He inherited Aggregor’s “Ultimate” form and can transform back and forth at will.
As far as colors go, in his mutant form he’s exactly identical to Aggregor. In his base form, however, his color pallet is different. Shirahk is supposed to be the result of a union between Aggregor and a Null Void settler some time after his defeat at the Forge of Creation. If anyone recalls the Null Void settlers from Alien Force, they’re blue.
That’s pretty much the only difference between the two of them. Shirahk inherited his mother’s blue skin, but he’s still got Aggregor’s black hair and red eyes.
Y’all might have noticed this already reading my fics, but I’m not actually all that creative. Just persistent.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed this!
He's interesting....since he did cause an issue in that he brought down the series by being pretty much unstoppable...a bit too unstoppable...
