Fighting pose Mare fuck yeah! With, like, actual shading and shit.
Behold! Ultimate Marequaza! Because for some reason I still use the term Ultimate Auraverse even though for all intents and purposes because of the reboot it's just the regular Auraverse.
This is, I want it to be understood, unequivocally one of the coolest things I've ever drawn.
I want to draw Mare in more Pokemon Protag fits like I did with Dawn's outfit but I can't decide which one.
Who should I dress Mare as next?
Kris
Leaf
Lyra
Hilda
Rosa
Serena
Selene
Gloria
Juliana
Harmony
Leaving off Dawn and May for obvious reasons. And Akari cause she's too similar to Dawn.
Mare dressed as Dawn. The image popped into my head so I drew it.
Okay, I know it's only been four or five months since the last time I did a "then vs. now" comparison for my art but I think my most recent one is so good that I just had to compare it to my first ever art. Especially since they're of the same character so it shows off how her design has evolved alongside my artstyle.
Chapter 8 of Ultimate Emerald, "We Put on the Best Talent Show the Town has Ever Seen", has now been published. I said I'd get it done before month's end and I meant it. Ft. Steven Stone and Matt.
So you know how I said I've given up trying to reconcile game lore with Horizons canon? Well, I have. But the Auraverse, which for the people who Don't know is my personal Pokemon AU, is a universe in which legendaries regularly give people superpowers and Zinnia is still a relevant character so I'm already taking liberties with game canon. Which also means I can reconcile Horizons lore with Auraverse lore.
Obviously, Lucius is a Chosen of Rayquaza, one of the aforementioned people given superpowers by a Legendary Pokemon. He can't own Rayquaza, because that would contradict the lore, but we can just cut that part out. That does leave a different glaring plot hole. Rayquaza Chosens are only picked when Groudon and Kyogre are close to awakening, and the last time Groudon and Kyogre awakened before Mare (the main character) had to deal with them was 300 years ago when Sir Aaron (yeah he's here too) was the Chosen of Rayquaza. So Lucius can't have been a Rayquaza Chosen because he lived 100 years ago, in between that time.
Except, note I said Rayquaza Chosens are picked when Groudon and Kyogre are close to awakening. They have not yet awakened when the Chosen is, well, chosen. So Lucius can be a Rayquaza Chosen, he just managed to prevent Groudon and Kyogre from awakening, rather than having to fight them. This means that, objectively speaking, Lucius is better at his job than both Sir Aaron and Mare despite those two being way more important and well-known in-universe than he is. And I think that's hilarious.
I joke sometimes about Mare glowing in the dark but it is actually true.
