I swear Harry Potter is like the ultimate fandom. If fandoms were a Venn diagram there would be one big Harry Potter circle and all the other fandoms inside it.
But let me tell you something about Lord of the Rings...I’ve loved it since I was a child, loved it for its pure majesty, and the wonder found in the smallest moments as well as the grandest. I’ve loved it vividly, and wonderingly, and been moved by the fearless scale of its humanity and peril. I’ve loved it for its magic, and the way it brings me back to the most innocent of times, when I was afraid of the dark but not repulsed by it, when I longed to be a hero and thought it was possible.
And let me tell you something else--I still love it. Because it still moves me to wonder and tears and absolute excitement, and it is beautiful and terrifying and so, so good and pure. It shows darkness to be darkness and light to be light, and it shows mercy and complexity in its discovery of the secrets of history and earth, as well as of the heart.
When you think you might accidentally end up being cool because you like dorky things, and "nerd culture" is a thing now, but then you have a conversation and get way too excited and start barfing words out of your mouth not even knowing if the person who asked you a simple question even likes video games or robots or Japanese food or Star Wars and your realize you've gone off on a tangent and the other person is looking at
You with wide eyes, in silence waiting for you to catch your breath and you suddenly realize that no one has any idea what the fuck you’re talking about.
I just want to stay home and watch every single episode of Doctor Who and Supernatural and Merlin and Orange is the New Black and Breaking Bad and Teen Wolf and the Walking Dead and Star Trek and Game of Thrones and Avatar and be the Ultimate Fandom Queen but god damn responsibilities like FUCK YOU COLLEGE YOURE RUINING MY DREAM.
i don't understand how I can still learn new things about Harry Potter and find new ways to appreciate it
