READ BEFORE YOU BUY the RAZER PHONE! If you follow my blog you remember I wrote before the launch of the Razer Phone why I believe it’s not worth your money and you should definitely wait for reviews to come in. Sadly, all my fears have been confirmed - THE RAZER PHONE is JUST A GIMMICKY MONEY-GRABBING ATTEMPT BY RAZER! Thanks to my colleagues from GSMarena I now have proof. Not that the phone is horrible or anything, but its main selling points are actually the phone’s biggest cons - THE DISPLAY. Yes, that “glorious” 120Hz ULTRAMOTION IGZO display may look crisper, but there are 2 sever shortcomings to that.
1. EFFICIENCY - Having a QHD 120Hz display means your phone chip has to push those extra graphics all the time to give you that 120Hz feeling and in doing so, even with a 4000mAh battery you get mediocre battery stats at best. In short, the Razer Phone does not have good battery life, even when you change the resolution all the way down to FHD or even 720p.
2. BRIGHTNESS AND SUNLIGHT VISIBILITY - I expected less brightness, but was not prepared for just 223 nits of it. Just as a heads up, even cheap $150 unknown Chinese Phones offer more than that. Today’s industry standard is at least 400nits for mid-range and definitely 500+ for Flagships. Just as a reference, Samsung S8 Note can do over 1000nits of brightness! Yes, that’s just how massive the difference is. Even 2014 Sony Z3 has 500 nits of brightness!
Summary - I have no doubt the Razer phone will find some geeky adopters who will like their phone, but for me having a power-hungry, low brightness display is not worth 700$ asking price, even if the put 32GB RAM in there! Thanks to all of those paid reviewers like Unbox Therapy and MKBHD most of you already pre-ordered the phone, well keep watching those guys. Oh, and the cameras are not very good, but that’s beside the point now. Stick to your headphones, keyboards and mice Razer, you are not welcomed here!
