      ❛   i   wish   i   could   stay   longer,   ❜         greyson   murmured   into   the   parisian   air   that   nipped   at   his   skin.   his   hand   momentarily   leaves   her's   as   his   arm   raises   to   grip   her   waist,   pulling   her   deeper   into   his   embrace.   their   strides   match   evenly,   feet   stepping   along   the   cobblestones   of   the   bridge.   the   stone   in   his   pocket   weighing   lighter   than   ever   before,   moving   more   and   more   into   the   back   of   his   mind   with   each   step.   pressing   his   lips   to   the   crown   of   her   head,   his   eyes   settle   on   the   ripples   of   the   river.   only   widening   somewhat   at   the   bright   red   light   that   suddenly   reflects   off   the   water.         ❛   what   the   hell——   ❜         though   his   words   are   cut   off   as   an   explosion   rips   him   from   her.

a frown marred astrid’s features, masking how internally smug she felt. her gaze was fixated on niko, as she stepped out of her heels and padded across the plush carpet towards him. “you didn’t like him, did you?” a drawn out sigh escaped her, arms outstretched to loosen his tie, as if encouraging him to settle down for the evening. “i think your standards are just impossibly high, niko — and that’s coming from me.” anyone else would think astrid was chastising him, but she knew nikolai would pick up on the slight satisfaction in her tone. the dinner had actually gone quite successfully in her eyes. she’d both witnessed and partook in a decent grilling of this borderline sociopathic frat president who was ‘courting’ her — at least, that was how astrid was defining the relationship. had their chef been able to procure her favourite champagne, it would have been a perfect night. “fraternity brothers just have a certain charm, don’t you think? and it was awfully nice of him to invite both of us to his party this weekend.” —- @ultransic​

three champagne flutes in, the bitterness was starting to set in for slater. if she kept up this reckless pace of drinking, she’d reach a level of impulsive that’d be dangerous for everyone at this charity gala but for the time being she was keeping herself in check. which, in reality, just meant she was trying to keep her glares in the direction of her father as he spoke with the vulture trying to buy off pruitt publishing to a minimum. she hadn’t realised evan was standing so close until she turned her head and saw him there, tall, good-looking, infuriating... her step brother. turning her annoyance in his direction, she took another sip of her drink before she spoke. “you should fire whoever picked that suit.” unloading an insult was practically a form of greeting as she took a step closer and noticed that he too had been watching her father. “you know, he might finally be ready for wife number four. maybe your mother should watch out.”               /  @ultransic​
