moa wearing a pencil skirt, high heels, and having untied hair is so laughably impractical. konomi had a skirt but it’s an a-line one (meaning it doesn’t hug her legs and thus impede her movement) and she had practical shoes and tights. elly also had a pencil skirt and high heels but her primary job is stay in the base. granted, it isn’t that good an excuse, but at least we know she can kick ass in her ‘action mode’ without falling on her own ass
moa/riku is bad. aside from the not quite incest and pedophilia, it forms the bulk of moa’s story arc. i don’t need to elaborate on why that’s bad, do i
the episode, under the cut:
the camera pan from satoko’s legs to her face, with the accompanying music that changes from lovey dovey to ‘oh shit she’s not sexy’ upon the audience being shown what she looks like, is bad
satoko wants to go out with somebody from earth, but, of course, she says she wants a boyfriend because compulsory heterosexuality
satoko non-consensually reading people’s minds is never treated as the issue it is
it’s odd how riku doesn’t talk to satoko privately and ask if she’s really an alien. i mean, she does pick up on him not being human, so it’s less likely that she’s joking about being an alien herself
raiha slaps away satoko’s kissy light, implying it’s a physical object humans can see. but, if that’s the case, why didn’t she and riku flip out over satoko being an alien
why does riku say that he and raiha living together ‘was just fate’. it’s so cringey
reito says to mayu, his daughter, ‘If you keep acting spoiled, no prince is going to want to come and get you. When you grow up, you’re going to be a princess, and then Prince Charming is going to come and find you, right?’ this feels very ooc, as this is the first and only time reito has ever spouted such sexist shit
the plot switch from the baby alien being lonely and wanting to leave earth to it being about a crush is bad. it’s just there to drive home that moa has tragically unrequited feelings for a ‘19’ year old kid
‘Just man up and quit crying already!’ shut up, zero
‘So…you can’t leave them. No matter what happens!’ well, you should leave them if they’re not interested in you
‘You’re a man, aren’t you? Well, that cute girl of yours is waiting!’ SHUT THE FUCK UP ZERO
i cannot believe that riku finding out that moa is part of the AIB and moa finding out that riku is geed happened during such a shit episode. go back to your horror novels, otsuichi (he’s the main writer for geed, btw)
zena finding out that reito is zero’s host because reito tripped and dropped the ultra eye is pathetic. why didn’t you do a story arc about reito and lumina getting involved with the AIB, otsuichi, you coward
personal grievances:
it would’ve been amazing for satoko to take romantic interest in moa, but it’s not something the episode absolutely requires
seeing as it pissed off so many people the first time, lemme say it again to piss off even more people: riku/moa is borderline incestuous and pedophilic
and, to piss off even more people: kei has a uterus
i recently finished watching those fb fansubs of orb origin and oh boy do i have opinions. most of them are negative because i did not like this show at all
firstly, the good:
gai and juggler’s chemistry remains as good as ever
i loved the parallels between amate and gai, as well as amate’s powers and an ultra’s power
the few scenes musashi had with amate were really good
miccot, ricca, asuka, gamu, and fujimiya were fairly good supporting characters
the bad, under a cut bc spoilers:
orbigin has mediocre writing. all of its writers wrote for orb and orb is amazing so i have no idea why orbigin is so terrible
the whole shinra betrayal thing was so obviously a set up. did amate ever find out that raigo was the one responsible for it
the sexism. holy mother of god, the sexism:
miccot was a great character until she met juggler. then she started acting weirdly and said things like ‘do you refuse to teach me because i’m a woman’ and then she got killed off for juggler’s manpain
amate’s characterisation deserves its own post but basically she is written in a very feminine way and, despite her powers, she is never quite on the same level as the male heroes
the resolution to the war god/bezelb conflict didn’t do amate justice. she tried to make peace with bezelb but when that backfired she was passive for the rest of the fight. she wasn’t even given the privilege of destroying bezelb herself, the male heroes did that for her
the earth subplot was boring, heteronormative, and sexist, and would’ve been vastly improved if yui was connected to amate, not shohei
do i even need to say anything about yui. she only existed to provide emotional support for shohei
how did gai and juggler get to the planet the warrior’s peak is on without a spaceship. why are the clothes on their backs the only worldly possessions they appear to have. how am i meant to suspend my disbelief like this
there’s more but i’m already worn out from writing just this
and now, personal complaints:
i hate psychi and raigo
orb gave gai missions which implies that they’re a sentient being but we’re never gonna get any elaboration on this and i’m salty
gai’s death should’ve been what had motivated juggler to cut down the tree of life and hell will freeze over before i change this opinion
