2 for the creepy locale meme
2 - a bustling diner that never closes
This was not a place he’d usually go to, but there had been something interesting about it. He had never seen it closed, not even in the dead of the night, and it was always full of people. He was having trouble even moving around, what with how many people were standing around. There was just something strange about it, the artificial lights and bright colors somehow making the atmosphere cold and unreal rather than cozy as it had probably meant to be.
And also strange were the people inside.
“Wasn’t expecting to find you around here,” he said, stopping in front of Marik. He hadn’t taken him for a person who’d go to such a bright, lively place. He gave more of a shady bar person, in Ryou’s opinion.

Memories of Sorrow
The memory starts foggy, white. There are voices before there are people, and notes before words. The the fog clears and leaves a small girl looking woefully at her tall, lanky, father. His brown mop of hair is slicked back neatly, suit form fitting nicely, and if he wasn’t looking down at his daughter he’d probably have an air of status and good-standing. Now, now all he seemed to exude was a quiet rage that couldn’t be calmed.
His daughter was twelve, maybe thirteen. Her knuckles were bloody and her nose was bleeding...or was. Now the blood and snot were just caked on her upper lip like a poorly designed tattoo. Yoko’s woe seemed to be quickly replaced by rage as he spoke. Her eyes, the ones she shared with her father, became dark...Dark enough to make the devil himself go cold.
“A fight, really? You know I had to leave a business meeting to pick you up, right?” Her lip curled in response, she was snarling. Maybe he was mad that he got interrupted, or that this was the third fight she’d gotten into in the last six months. Then again, this was the first one at school, where other parents would know and talk about them. That’s all that mattered to him, public perception.
“I don’t care! You should have stayed and I could have walked home,” She paused, and took a breath in. She was readying herself. “I could have walked here, I can’t even call it h o m e. You’re never here! No one is! You fired Mrs. Johnson, and none of the other staff talk to me anymore!” He cut her off, trying to use his size to intimidate her. It had always worked, she’d usually just loose that fire and sit down and yield...but not this time. She just stood straighter.
“Shut your mouth. You’re ungrateful for all the work I do to keep this house together-!” She cuts him off, which causes a physical step back. He didn’t expect her to do that.
“No you shut up! You’re so busy working that you only come see me when something bad happens! You didn’t even ask me if I was okay! You just assumed it was my fault! Last time I saw you for more than an hour, I broke my arm! You didn’t even stay for a day before you ran off again!” He seems to gather himself enough to speak, but he can’t get a word out before she follows up. “You are never home and you know what? I’m happy you’re not! I hate you, I hate that you never look at me. I hate that you compare me to mom! I wish I would have died instead!”
“Don’t you talk about her in that tone-” He didn’t even react to her wishing she was never born. Oh, she knew he wouldn’t care. It just made her more angry, bitter.
“What? Talk like what? She can’t hear me! She’s dead and never coming back!” She turns to motion to the room. “Hey mom! Guess what? I hate you too! You’re a stupid bitch that couldn’t even live to help raise a kid your husband didn’t even want-,” He cut her off, but not by speaking. His hand slapped across her face, causing her head to yank sharply left.
She couldn’t speak.
“You know what Yoko?” His voice was quiet. In the distance a grandfather clock ticked. “I wish you w o u l d have died instead, because you aren’t worth even a fraction of what she was”
Everything goes black, and the memory ends.

It’s impossible to really lock Bakura out of anywhere he wants to be, so Ryou has only ever been able to contact the other spirit on the nights he knows he can expect at least a few hours to himself. So when Bakura’s coat swishes out the door and it slams behind him, Ryou is quickly on his feet, the game on his phone forgotten as he darts into his room to grab his kit.
It’d been slow going, but they were past using a Ouija board and Ryou had fitted out his home with enough wards and blessings that even the worst fiends in the Shadows would probably be tempered in his kitchen. The symbol was drawn with quick and familiar ease with chalk on his wall and he pressed his palm to the center of it. He then closed his eyes to focus the channel.
Opening the gates like this... it was tricky. Whether it was through a spirit summoning like this, or a call with the board, there was always the chance something else would slip through.
The sooner he pulled Malik out of the Shadows, the better for the both of them.
▤ = falling asleep on them .
She felt him slump a few moments ago, but was more focused on the terrible horror film on the television, complete with a man being sawed in half by a car that hadn’t stopped. These sort of films were her guilty pleasures, she loved watching movies with heavy gore and violence, even if said movies were bad with awful effects.

He sees the other child, but Mappa doesn’t say a word. After all, it looks as if he’s trying to be stealthy, maybe sneaking away from an adult or guardian. He’s never been one to go out of his way to thwart the plans of others, rather preferring to remain a neutral party, but ultimately curiousity wins out. Once the other doesn’t appear to be so preoccupied he speaks out.
“What are you doing?”
