unabashedharassinghumus replied to your post “Remember that time when Steven decided to turn himself in so he’d be...”
He did the opposite of pink diamond
I KNOW and the best part is that HE KNEW IT
I mean, he didn’t know she was the same person at the time, he didn’t know he was delivering himself to the people that were both mourning and despising part of him at the same time
BUT STEVEN KNEW HE WAS DOING THE OPPOSITE
He said, and I quote:
“I get it now. I'm the only one who can stop what she started. I can stop all of it! She wouldn't have wanted this. But I do.”
This is a matter for a longer post/essay/gifset that I might really want to do right now and maybe I will, but my immediate point is that he knew at the time that he was doing the opposite of what she did but decided to do it anyway and that’s a big step onto him finding his singular identity in all of this mess, which will eventually lead us all to salvation, because the key in all this fuckdom that this big ass lie became isn’t that Steven can solve it because he’s part Diamond (holy shit), the key is that Steven can clean up this goddamn mess BECAUSE HE´S PART HUMAN and was RAISED AS A HUMAN.
Which is why I have always insisted that the episodes people called “fillers” were SO IMPORTANT because they focused on Steven’s human life, his connection to other people and, if you look at it closely, most of the things he developed on those episodes ended up helping later on. Getting people together, being a link in communication, practicing empathy, understanding his identity and other people’s, dealing with fear and guilt, I can go on.
Let me be clear though, Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond/Obi Juan whoever the fuck you are may have fucked up A LOT, and I mean, good god sis, the entire basis of your whole operation and the life and death of your companions as well as the life of your kid are all set upon the foundation of a BIG LIE. Everything is built upon that LIE. And I know she didn’t think the Diamonds were gonna come back, because she said to Pearl that they “didn’t care”, which clearly they did but she never knew to which extent they cared for her (probably because of how they treated her in those flashbacks we saw), and this might be a thing in which Steven’s empathy can come in handy, we’ve already established the physical empathy he feels with Blue’s emotions, so there’s a whole misunderstanding here to resolve which is Steven’s field of study at this point. So I can’t blame her for not knowing that they’d come back to attack them then and come back again 25 million years later to chase them. I can blame her for poor foresight and poor decision making (which is also good writing because the Rose we were made to imagine by other people’s recounts was a goddamn strategy master and look at where we are, look at where we started) but I can’t blame her for not having thought of that, at least not with the information I have so far, she couldn’t have known.
What I can blame her for, though, is that she lied even knowing she was giving birth to a kid who wouldn’t know who he was. Her lie would mean that Steven would never know his full identity, because he was never to know hers. And she wanted him to be human but you can’t force your life projects onto your kids and Steven has the right to know his full identity, and that I can’t overlook, with the information I have at the moment (nor can I overlook what she put Pearl through with this tomfoolery).
BUT
What Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond/Obi Juan whoever the fuck you are did know was that Steven was to be an individual with his own mindset and that being raised as a human would give him a life of freedom, which they, as Gems, never had. And whether she knew or not that he’d have to be faced with the backlash of this lie, she did know he’d be different from her and that’s what she ultimately wanted for him. And that may just be the key to sorting all this mess because Steven’s powers aren’t just physically healing, his human empathy makes him a healer at heart.

You don't have to be like Rose Quartz. You can be someone even better. You can be you.
And I ended up rambling out an essay of reply, I’m sorry, my thoughts aren’t even properly formed yet but your reply was very right and made me want to vent.
