very true, but it's also not a real tool that exists that anyone really uses, it was made up for the game. at least, to my knowledge. making fun of his blindness is a different story...
i mean, whether or not it’s fictional makes little difference; that doesn’t remove disability aids from the context of their purpose. a lot of fictional genres are full of different kinds of aids. some kind of anti-gravity hover chair or proxy robot might not be real, but they’re still bound to the matter of physical immobility the way wheelchairs are, and wheelchair mockery can be pretty bad.
godot’s visor thingy enables him to see when his vision would otherwise be pretty much disabled. it’s imperfect and kinda ridiculous, but it’s still very much an aid. i think there is a safe line to be walked when it comes to humor with disability aids, but it’s a fine line for abled people.
and another thing--i suspect people would be a lot more sensitive about it if this disability and aid was a part of a better-liked character’s life.
