"You are Soichiro Yagami's son, is that correct? In that case, I'd like to personally acknowledge the benefit of your involvement against the accused. I heard you provided some extraordinary insights to the investigative team?" the attorney was shuffling a few documents against the wooden desk where the prosecution had been stationed until a few moments ago, but the young man had, inexplicably, his diligent attention.

"Light Yagami, yes. It’s a pleasure." Light smiled and extended a hand. "It was nothing, really. Just gathering up the pieces. You’re the one who made it stick. Though I’m amazed this even came to trial, given the evidence…" He glanced over at the opposing counsel’s table, shaking his head. "I’ve never understood how defense attorneys can sleep at night."

Was this a sick joke? They were actually making her choose on how to kill Mikami? Kiyomi glared at the police officer in front of her, which made him scowl at her in return. The officer who was keeping her handcuffed forced her head to look straight at Mikami. If only they both had the Death Note with them, they could have writing the officers’ names down and escape.

But, Mikami wasn’t fighting any of this at all, he was .   .   . defeated for a lack of a better word. So he was giving up already, he already thought he deserved this.

"We don’t have all day, Miss Takada," The officer sneered at her. "If you take too long, you are going to be next instead."

Fools, if she wasn’t considered a criminal at this very moment, they wouldn’t have spoken to her like that. She was Kiyomi Takada, damn it, she deserved respected.

"I—" Kiyomi gulped the dryness that was forming in her throat, and gave Mikami one last, determined look. Please forgive me, Teru .   .   .

"An injection," She finally answered. She didn’t want Mikami to suffer much; as far as she was concerned, they were quicker and less agonizing than the electric chair.

Not even a second passed since she spoke that the officers dropped her and dragged Mikami away from her cell, and locked her up completely.

And then there was silence.
