#45: UNBROKEN BONES Sign: Gemini Gift: Heterarchy Shadow: Hierarchy
Gift: Heterarchy You are here to revolutionize our collective relationship to power and authority. When you honor your unique gifts, see the Truth of the value you hold, and take back your sovereignty, you set off a chain reaction that breaks open those outdated hierarchical molds that ultimately hold us back from growth and prosperity. In this elevated state, you see the innate value of each individual. Your role is to reclaim your Truth and dissolve the separation between self and other. It is not your job to be anyone's savior. Instead, you empower others by leading with integrity and goodwill.
Shadow: Hierarchy You cannot dismantle a system from within it. Hierarchical power structures of today are rooted in the long-held undercurrents of fear, but no single entity, person, or corporation is to blame. In varying degrees and means, we all feed it with our energy. This shadow comes to the forefront when you unconsciously forfeit your individual power at the mercy of this grand illusion; you either discard your sense of purpose entirely or unleash your repressed anger in ways that do not ultimately serve you. The throne is a clever prop to keep us divided.
Themes: equality + balance + power + leadership
New Arrival #46
From Russian Drunk With Power Records.
SCHIZOPHASIA - 3000 Cassette. RM10 / USD3.50 (SOLD OUT)
Here is another installment from these Canadian noise merchants. This record… is fucking noisy. The songs are all basic, with "tuca-tuca" drum beats and simplistic bassy follows while a fuzzy, blown out guitar squeals some feedback and strums some rad licks over it all. The crazy noise interludes in between are interesting. Most of these tracks are really simple punk jams crammed through a Japanese noise core sieve. Yet, suddenly, when you flip to the B-side, it's like some rudimentary industrial noise-scape -nice! The vocals are sloppy, throaty and sometimes laden with effects. There is a lot going on here, but it is completely cohesive. I wish the song had more punch to them like the first songs on both sides - they are fucking rad. This is something I wouldn't repeatedly listen to, but I'm glad I got it for review to reinvigorate the idea that as punks we can do whatever the fuck we want with music. -MRR
UNBROKEN BONES - Demo Cassette. RM10 / USD3.50 (SOLD OUT)
More Russian HC from Drunk with Power Records! As you can expect given the band name, Unbroken Bones clearly take their main inspiration from Broken Bones... in other words, this is pretty much the perfect combination of thrash metal and Discharge-style HC. The riffs are simple and straight up, but there's blazing lead guitar all over everything and nasty HC vocals that kind of remind me of the Accused, but not quite as over the top. Wrap everything up in a raw as fuck recording that kind of sounds like an nth-generation early 80s metal demo you got from a sketchy Euro tape trader, and you've got yourself quite the package. A ripping demo for the crusty metalheads, and it's always great to hear killer HC from unusual places. -SorryState
GERM ATTAK - Fear Of The Unknown CD. RM17 / USD6
For some reason, this band has passed me by so far. Not sure why, since they've been around for a while, but I've never felt the urge pick up any of their records, despite some pretty complimentary reviews and recommendations. Sitting down now with this 14 song CD, I can see that it's been my loss. Still, it's never too late. You rarely see a mention of these glue-addled Canadian spiky-tops without a reference to UK82 or the VARUKERS, and those influences are definitely there, but I hear a much more straightforward punk sound too, along with the classic US and Finnish influences. There are times on this CD that I even hear elements of the OBSERVERS or RED DONS. Catchy, angry, unpretentious song played in tried-and-true style without sounding completely dated. -MRR
