UNC CSI Researchers Rediscover Forgotten Gunboat Near Rodanthe

A team of East Carolina University (ECU) graduate students led by Dr. Nathan Richards, head of the UNC Coastal Studies Institute’s (UNC CSI) Maritime Heritage Program and Associate Professor in the Program in Maritime Studies at ECU, has identified the Pappy’s Lane shipwreck in the Pamlico Sound near Rodanthe as a type of World War II gunboat.
