Tye Trujillo on playing "Master of Puppets" (and working with uncle Kirk) for the iconic 'Stranger Things' scene

new headcanon:
so (canonically) B.ones and S.pock argue and bicker and are super sassy to each other all the time (in a way that is often quite mean on both ends). They do it in front of me at some point and I get all sad and am like “oh no please...stop...” and they’re like AH OH NO MUST NOT UPSET WENDY and “panic” a little and K.irk is just smiling and snickering to himself like “they wouldn’t listen when I told them to stop, so this is what they deserve”
Post the confession that McCoy interrupted, here
“And just WHERE do you think YOU’RE going?!” McCoy exclaimed, running after Spock.
“I was planning to return to my quarters.” Spock replied tersely, mouth a thin line. “I would suggest you not try to stop me.”
McCoy turned red with fury. “I’ll do whatever I damn please, you green blooded bastard. What the hell do you think we were doing?!”
“Wendy and I were talking-”
“Looked like a little bit more than talking to me! I can’t fucking believe you!” The doctor sputtered angrily. “What, you think you can just do whatever you want with her?”
Grimacing slightly, Spock made as if to turn and walk away. McCoy grabbed his shirt, pulling Spock towards him, though to little affect with the strength difference between them.
“Let go of me. Now.” Spock said icily.
“What the fuck did you think you were doing?” McCoy insisted, practically yelling in the hallway. They had barely walked away from Wendy’s room even. “Why did you think you could-”
Spock grabbed McCoy’s arm, ripping it off of his shirt and throwing the doctor into the wall.
“Because I love her.” Spock replied, his anger beginning to show on his face.
“You- you- you love…” McCoy stammered as he stood up, looking at Spock with shock on his face. His gaze grew angry again. “That doesn’t mean you can-”
“I’m going to my quarters now, Doctor. Leave. Me. Alone.” Spock half-hissed, before turning his heel and walking purposefully down the hallway. The small crowd that had been pretending not to listen parted immediately to let him through, all mildly terrified of the anger still on his face.
Cursing, McCoy thought to go after him again, but he realized that he was pushing the Vulcan too far. That small act of violence hadn’t even been Spock’s full strength. He’d end up with his head through a wall if he kept this up. Seething, he decided to go get himself a drink, vowing to talk to Kirk about this, certain the Captain would be on his side.
Kirk heard rumors and the whispers of gossip that McCoy and Spock had had a row. And it was over a girl or something? He didn’t fully get the context. Every story told it differently. Some of them mentioned Wendy, which had him worried. So when he finally went off shift, he knew he had to speak with both of them. Separately seemed best.
“Spock, will you come with me for a moment?” Kirk asked his first office as he headed off the bridge.
“Certainly, Captain.” Spock replied, clasping his hands behind his back and following Kirk into the lift.
“How are Wendy’s lessons going? Is she making good progress?” Kirk asked conversationally, smiling.
Spock paused for longer than Kirk would have expected. “She seems to be doing well. Our last lesson...she was having trouble focusing.” Kirk could swear he heard wryness in the Vulcan’s tone. “But I think she should be able to get back on track with no trouble.”
“That’s great to hear. She seems quite dedicated.”
“Indeed.”
Now that they were inside Kirk’s quarters, the Captain felt he could address the issue at hand.
“Now, Spock, what I really wanted to discuss…” He paused, thinking how best to phrase it. “There were rumors that you and McCoy had...an altercation. Is that true?” Kirk asked, tone and expression serious.
“That is correct.”
Kirk raised his brows, expecting Spock to continue. The Vulcan did not volunteer anything else. “Would you mind telling me a little bit more?”
“The reason you heard about it was because Doctor McCoy decided it prudent to yell at me in the corridor.” Spock replied, a hint of sarcasm tinging his otherwise emotionless voice.
‘Wow, Spock seems really agitated over this…’ Kirk thought to himself.
“What were you...what was he upset about?”
“Jim,” Spock met his gaze, the irritation gone from his face. “I love her.”
Kirk was startled, but didn’t show it. In fact, he his face softened. This was a very vulnerable thing for Spock to share. He was honored the Vulcan would tell him.
“Wendy?” Kirk asked softly.
Spock nodded. “Yes. I was...in the process of telling her when McCoy interrupted. He was...not pleased.” The anger flared up again. “But he had no right. His response was highly illogical. He ignores the fact that Wendy has a right to choose to be with someone romantically. Perhaps she will not choose me. But that is her decision, not his.”
He didn’t have all the pieces, but Kirk felt he understood what had happened. McCoy was probably still seething over a drink...but he’d deal with that later. He was talking to Spock now.
“I would agree with that.” Kirk put a hand gently on Spock’s shoulder. “I’ll talk to Bones. But in the meantime, Spock, I’m...really happy for you. Did she...what did she say?” He smiled.
Spock was quiet for a moment. “Well, she didn’t get to say. Doctor McCoy interrupted.”
“Are you going to talk to her about it again?”
“She asked both of us to leave her alone. She was very upset. I did not wish to...intrude and upset her further.” A slight frown.
Kirk nodded. “Well, maybe give it a few days, and if she seems willing to talk again…” His eyes lit up suddenly. “We have shore leave! I think we already know that she feels the same way about you, Spock - so you could take this opportunity to do something romantic!”
Spock quirked a brow. “Jim, romance is not logical and frankly I have never understood it.”
Kirk grinned. “Don’t worry, I have a few ideas…”
Satisfied with his conversation with Spock, the warm feelings in Kirk’s heart lasted only a bit as he contemplated what his conversation with McCoy would be like. The warmth was replaced with a pit in his stomach and unease. He stood outside McCoy’s office in medbay for a moment, running a hand roughly through his hair and sighing. This would not be fun.
He knocked on the Doctor’s door. “Bones? Can I come in?”
“Oh, Jim, I was wondering when you’d stop by. Please, come on in.” McCoy replied lazily.
Kirk closed the door behind him, forcing a smile even as he eyed the alcohol on Bones’ desk. It wasn’t too much - Bones was a little flushed, but probably only tipsy, not drunk.
“I heard some rumors that you and Spock had a row, Bones.”
McCoy sighed heavily, downing some more alcohol. “You won’t believe this, Jim. Spock was standing with his face so close to hers, I wonder if they were gonna fucking kiss. With Wendy, I mean. Can you believe that? And when I talked to him about it, he said he LOVED her. I can’t believe it.” He was scowling darkly.
‘Talked to him?’ Kirk thought incredulously. ‘From what I heard you were yelling at him…’
“I’m not sure I see the problem with that.” Kirk replied slowly, watching McCoy carefully.
“You don’t see the problem?! She’s...she’s so vulnerable, Jim! What if he’s just taking advantage of her? She’s my niece, dammit, and I don’t think this is right! The idea of him, thinking of her as a woman just...I don’t like it.”
“Bones...I understand where you’re coming from. But Wendy is an adult. And she gets to make her own decisions, about who to talk to, and what career to pursue, and who to love.” Kirk said the last bit softly. “Even if you don’t like it, you have to respect that it’s her choice.”
“But Jim, what if she makes the wrong choice? How can Spock be the right choice?” McCoy put his head in his hands.
“It’s her prerogative to make mistakes and learn from them. But, to be honest with you, I can’t imagine Spock doing anything to hurt her if he’s really in love with her. And I can’t imagine him saying it if he wasn’t.”
“I just don’t like it. I don’t like it!”
“Bones…”
McCoy sighed heavily. “Fine, fine! Maybe I was...being selfish.” He groaned. “I probably owe both of them an apology...but I’m not ready to apologize to that pointy-eared Vulcan quite yet. My pride and all.”
Kirk pat him on the shoulder. “Well, take a few days and apologize when you’re ready. It’s hard. You really do think of her as family now, don’t you?”
“More of a daughter than a niece, if I’m honest.” He replied gruffly. “I don’t know if she sees me as a father though. After that outburst if she did she probably thinks I’m a bad father now…” He smiled wryly. “Thanks for the talk, Jim. ‘Preciate it.”
“Of course, old friend.” Kirk grinned at him.
Bright lights tend to burn out fast, and as I shine bright, I am scared that it won't last
My uncle Kirk is a fucking legend. I hate that we hardly talk, he's easily my favourite family member on mum's side. He rang me tonight to make sure I've got my head on right, he made sure I was focused, he backed me up, gave me options, he supported me.
This is exactly what I needed too. He reassured me that even if I fail miserably, I've still experienced things most others wouldn't. I feel good right now. It would have been good coming from anyone else, but the fact that it came from him was extra special. 15 days to go. I hope I don't disappoint.
fuckin love you man.
