yo uncledisney here. i saw you reblogged that 'ask an author' post, so i got a q for u: what are the 3 lines from a batb fic you wrote that you're proudest of?

Aww thanks so much for sending me a question!! I wasn’t actually expecting such a quick response. Gee that’s….that’s kind of hard to answer. Let’s see. 

I don’t know about three lines exactly, but there’s a bit of dialogue in “You’re My Home, Stay with Me” that I’m proud of. It’s a version of that conversation between Belle and Maurice after she returns to the village, but they get a little more time to talk in detail. Belle, of course, explains that she and the Beast have become friends, but she’s worried about how her dad is going to think she’s crazy. Instead he responds:

“I know you, Belle. You’ve always had good judgment about people, and you know your own mind. If you say he’s changed for the better, if you consider him worthy of your friendship, then—I believe you.”

And it really was as simple as that, to him.

I was really happy with the way that whole conversation turned out on paper, because i had such a clear image of the scene in my head. 

I also feel like it sums up Belle and Maurice’s relationship of affection and trust. Just as Belle will always stand up for her father when people mistake his genius for insanity, Maurice will stand by his daughter and have faith in her intuition. 

I always thought it was sweet in the ‘91 movie that, even though Maurice has no reason to care whether the Beast lives or dies, he goes with his daughter back to the castle to warn him about the mob. I guess he figures, if this guy is important to Belle, then he’s worth saving. And I just kind of wanted to expand on that idea a little in this scene, and I think it turned out pretty alright.

Hi I’m Gabby/Remus and my favorite BatB song is either Gaston or The Mob Song, but I’m betting my horses on Gaston.

Random fact about me: I had to look for selfies everywhere and then give up and post the ones I sent to the group because in all of my most recent pictures I’m wasted and that’s not pretty for anyone. Ok but seriously, a random fact about me is that I once went to an aquarium that had those tubes so you can walk in the middle of the fishes and I was so determined to take a picture of the stupid face ray fishes have in their bellies that in the end the whole staff knew me and would point to me whenever one was swimming by and it turned into a game for everyone there. I tend to get… loud when I’m excited. I got two good shots though, you can see it here and here.

6. How did writing change you? Oooh, this is interesting. Hmm. I’ve been writing for so long that it feels like it’s grown with me more than it’s changed me. A writing-related event did change me in high school, though. I went to the Kenyon Review-sponsored Young Writers summer program at Kenyon College the summer before my senior year of high school and had a great instructor who told me that my work was very good and I had a lot of potential. It was the first time someone who wrote professionally, who like, made his living from it, told me I had Actual Game. It did a lot for my confidence and probably spurred me to keep up with writing (I wasn’t able to do as much creative writing in high school because I went to a Very Rigorous College Prep where I barely had time to sleep.)

25. Favorite line you’ve ever written? Damn okay I’m gonna judge this out of my fanfic hold pls *rummages through fic* I’ really bad at this so for now we’re gonna go with this line from “By Any Other Name’: “All I’m saying,” Belle whispered, her breath hot and sweet against Adam’s ear, “is that there must be other satisfying ways to scream your name that don’t involve me being irritated with you.”

49. Writing advice. It’s not original, but it’s what’s worked best for me: Read. A ton. Read everything, but especially what you want to write. I’m pretty confident with my smut because I’ve read a lot of it myself and I know what, as a reader, comes off as hot versus what comes off as squicky. But honestly, read anything. Reading makes you a better writer. Also, write as much as you can. Even if you think it sucks. Writing is like a muscle, and it gets *marginally* easier the more you do it.
