@stthomaspubliclibrary I love this author’s voice and this book about books has everything that makes for a good read … * Lots of humour * A van * Her Royal Highness The Queen * A happy ending (sort of) and * I love the title I actually read most of this, out loud, on a road trip from Toronto to Provincetown (and back). Alan has also written, adapted or starred in some of my favourite stories in print, on stage and in film; A Private Function, Prick Up Your Ears (Screenplay), Talking Heads (all of them!), The Lady in the Van, The Clothes They Stood Up In, The History Boys. I must admit, I’m not a fan of large books (hard to hold, transport etc.) and I really like my small hardcover edition from 2007 with a gold embossed crown and eye glasses on the cover.
