A Frightful Future
“What was it that inspired the name Rimestar, Silyse?”
Silyse’s ears twitched at the sound of her friend’s voice, her icy gaze lifting from the horrid tome she held, to gaze upon it’s source.
“What? I would think that’s a touch obvious, wouldn’t you?” Silyse replied, her echoing voice filled with amusement and intrigue.
Malunara held a stare, their arms folded behind their back and their head tilted. The Geist’s lack of a face meant a consequent lack of expression, but to Silyse, their annoyance was clear. A wretched bubbling loosed from the monster before her, approximating a sigh, before they at last spoke again.
“It is, yes. But what was wrong with Glacetoile? Too... Nightborne, for a Forsaken? I understand, believe me, but was there more to it?” Malunara flailed their arms and hands as they spoke. At least, that is how it appeared to Silyse, a physical overperformance to compensate for their facelessness.
“That woman is dead, Malunara. The name Rimestar represents my distance from her. The new path I tread towards the future.” Silyse did not ponder her answer long, clearly having thought of this very topic herself for quite awhile. She stood firm and statuesque as she spoke, in great contrast to Malunara. “Is that not why you chose the name Venomsoul?”
“Partly.” Malunara raised a clawed hand to their waist. twisting it from left to right as they responded. “But most of it was spite, my dear.” they continued, tilting their head again, briefly, towards the skull and painting behind the pair. “It was the name he chose for me. But I have made it my own, and so it’s legacy will be my own. Not my parents’, nor that vile man’s.”
Silyse hummed solemnly as she nodded, all too familiar with her friend’s struggles. She raised a frigid hand of her own, resting it upon the Geist’s shoulder. It should have been a tender gesture, but she failed spectacularly, the Death Knight’s hand sliding pathetically off of Malunara. The pair stared at it for a moment, before another horrific bubbling sound escaped Malunara’s body, not a sigh this time, but more of an amused cackle.
“Well, some things never change...” Malunara uttered as their laughter settled. “I believe we’ll be just fine, Kal’dris.”
