Plant Based Beef Burrito Bowl

Rating: 4/10

This was okay. You have to stir in the Jalepeno sauce while heating it up (it’s not a separate packet) and the whole thing ended up feeling a little one note, both in terms of flavor and texture. The plant based meat seemed pretty right on... though unfortunately I would have preferred it to taste like plants. User error there.

I didn’t hate eating it. Just nothing to be excited about.

5 Toddler Toys Under $5

1. Toy Echo Microphone

This ten inch plastic microphone is great for younger children who love to sing. They come in bright fun kid colors and with every child’s most loved, and often off-limits, accessory - a plastic pretend cord. Both my girls love to run or crawl to cords. They both know cords are off limits, so within minutes they both had the microphones hanging out of their mouths by the fake, three inch cord. I guess you could say this toy doubles as a tether as well! Even our 9 month old will practice different sounds into the microphone and enjoy the echo she hears as she does. I remember singing into an echo microphone as a child which gave me the idea to get this gift for my toddler. She has been singing into random objects like a microphone for the last few weeks. It is always a joy to share the love of music with our children!

2. The First Year Stack Up Cup Toys

For hours of scientific, mathematical and imaginative play these cups are a crowd pleaser from birth to three (and beyond I hope!). My toddler is two and a half so I can only personally testify to the results I’ve seen with her, her sister and other toddler friends who range up to three years of age. These cups seem simple, but with their bright colors, numbers imprinted on the bottom and the option to stack them up like a tower, or stack them as nesting bowls leads to endless hours of fun. They stack up and store nicely in a small space which is a plus. Not to mention the stacking cups can be pretend cups for tea parties, bowls or your toddlers favorite pretend food in a pretend kitchen or, you guessed it a TEETHER for those little babies cutting teeth and wanting to “drink” out of cups just like the adults around them!

3. Pip Squeak Crayola Markers 16 Count.

These markers are appropriately named for your little ones! They are smaller in size so they fit in your little ones hands and have bright fun colors with interesting names. It does cost $5.44, so this is over my promised $5 threshold, so I offer a second choice, which comes in under $5 at a 10 count but is not part of the “pip squeak” series. I wanted to make the recommendation for the age appropriate markers alongside the under $5 that I promised! 10 or 16 markers, we often only give our daughter one or two at a time to color with so I think the smaller pack would be completely sufficient for whatever toddler you are trying to bless with the goodness or art! Don’t forget our FAVORITE coloring catchphrase, “We color only on paper.” (This insinuates the opposite- we don’t color on the table/trays/walls/clothes etc!) 4. OBall

That’s right, a classic ball can keep a child entertained for days on end. This ball is easy to grip for babies, and can teach fine motor skills with its cut out shapes. It also has a few filled in sections with small beads to add the sensory experience of hearing the beads rattle as the ball rolls. It is lightweight so if it falls on or hits baby it should not cause the bay or toddler to get hurt. A home nurse told me once that playing ball with your baby or toddler teaches them the magical, always needed, something I’m still working on — PATIENCE! Patience… is ALWAYS a good thing. And to think there is a fun way of practicing patience with your children is a delightful Idea in my book. To know that playing ball can teach things like, patience, taking turns, cooperative play and sharing makes me want to recommend always putting a ball in a baby shower present for expecting moms. As a former softball player and coach, always remember to take, “You throw like a girl,” as a compliment to you and your children!
