Postcard for a June 21, 1993 show at Under Acme in NYC, featuring Slant 6 and Tiger Trap, co-promoted by the K Records and Dark Beloved Cloud labels.
One of my favorite NYC venues in the early 90s was Under Acme. Like a number of rock clubs at that time (Fez, The Spiral), it was located underground, down a short flight of stairs in the Village. Gail from Chickfactor booked a number of memorable events there. And this night featured an equally notable bill, put together by K Records and my friend Douglas’s label, Dark Beloved Cloud.
Slant 6 may have yet to release their debut single, but they merited top billing on the strength of singer-guitarist Christina Billotte’s pedigree as one half (along with Mary Timony) of the duo that had powered Autoclave.
But the breakout stars of the night were Tiger Trap, indeed “fierce and thoughtful, loud and tuneful.” I’d caught them a couple of nights before at their gig with Lois and Honeybunch at Maxwell’s, in Hoboken, so I did know what to expect. I was once again knocked off my feet by their tunefully aggressive pop explosion.
After that Under Acme show, my friend Mike Appelstein had arranged an interview with Jen and Angela from Tiger Trap. I brought along my trusty tape recorder and asked some questions along with Mike and my friend Chin-a. And that interview ended up in Caught In Flux issue #2.
