His jagged mouth is actually a family trait since Gaster also has the same physical trait. The only one that seems to have missed this is Sans. It would explain why Sans is considered an outcast by his father. He looks weak and is weak.
Alignment and Backstory Important Canon Info:
Papyrus was not always the terrifying warrior and tactician that we all know of him. When he was a child he would spend his time caring for his younger brother Sans since their father was too busy to take care of the two.
They were just like any normal brothers until Sans was forced to work for their father as a lab tech and intern.
Pap was by himself most of the time unless Sans came to see him and though he was the older brother he still felt like his younger brother had switched their roles.
As the declaration of KILL OR BE KILLED came to pass it was more difficult to stay idly by and watch the strong pick on the weak; Papyrus hated it.
He enrolled in the Royal Guard Training Regimen only to be forcefully pulled back to the lab by Gaster. They were not supposed to be seen it seems.
He always admired his younger brother for his optimism and inner strength but over time he saw that diminish more and more because he did not know what Sans was sacrificing to keep him safe.
When the lab exploded they were forced into the open only having to survive a trek through the Underworld to make it to Snowdin. Their reception was not a warm one as a fight broke out between a few residents and his younger brother. This is where infamously Sans gets his left tooth gets punched out and to save a knocked out brother Papyrus took the next hit getting his left eye socket torn into by wolf like claws. Once safe, the elder vowed that he would be strong for his brother no matter the cost.
Papyrus begins to take a more assertive role in their brotherly relationship and ends up getting suckered into using DT injections to boost his strength by Alphys who is more than happy to have a new test subject.
After beating the former head of the Royal Guard, Undyne, Papyrus took complete control. He may seem like a terrifying foe but he still has that spark of a Bravery soul that he used to. Unfortunately Alphys experimentation has gone on far too long and just like his brother the use of DT has caused his appearance to change, the first level of change being red eye lights. His soul is still orange with red cracks within it signifying his dependance on DT for that long period of time.
