When to Start Training
Before I start: Keep in mind that this is just MY way, (there are MANY ways) this is just the one I prefer and in my opinion think is one of the best for the horse.
When is it TOO early?
I find this question open ended. Its never too early to start training per say, but it can very well be too early to start training under saddle.
Foals / unbroken horses should be handled, bridled, led, have their feet messed with, ears touched, brushed, etc. all the way up until they’re ready for training under saddle.
When is it TOO early for under saddle Training?
To make this simple, here is a link to an informational PDF on WHEN HORSES GROWTH PLATES FUSE.
>NO HORSES PLATES CLOSE BEFORE 4 YEARS OF AGE
>NO HORSES PLATES STAY “OPEN” AFTER 4 YEARS OF AGE
keep in mind that light riding is perfectly fine, but be sure to watch your horse carefully to avoid any early developments of bone or muscle issues!
