Shenz Headcanon:

Jerry is an aquatic-themed monster like Undyne, Onion-san, ect. And I feel he has bioluminescent markings across his body that appear only when he is truly refreshed and content. They reflect the main trait of his magic which is Patience. So when he truly is able to submerge himself in deep cold saltwater. The reason he didn't have them in the underground is that it was all freshwater. And his eyes are squint and beady because he's a deep-sea monster species and the surface is so bright, once he's in a dark enough space, his irises expand and show his eye colour that reflects his magic trait.
