The Man who speaks in hands
Sorry for the long theory, but it is worth it.
-My theory on the mysterious WD Gaster-
During this paper I will explain some things, and bring up some other questions. Firstly is how can WD be found when he isn’t in the game no matter how hard anybody searches, he is in the game but in order to find him and his friends you must edit the code of the game. Upon editing the code, WD and his minions will be found in the CORE which is where WD worked and created some machines. To find WD himself you must go to a room in an area of the underground called waterfall, upon trying to talk to him he will render no speech, if you get too close he will act surprised and disappear. When you see him speak he uses his form of “sign language” which is known as WingDing. When the font is capitalized you can see that the first part of the alphabet is made of hands. If you notice the initials for WingDing is WD, such as WD Gaster, which is the font he speaks. There are only two other characters in the game that use a font that is their name. These characters being the skeleton brothers Papyrus and Sans, both of these characters speak in the font they are named after. This leads me to believe the skeleton brothers are related to WD, possibly cousins, siblings, or WD could be their father. WD did live with them for some time as proven by his doctor’s badge, his blueprints (written in wingding) and WD’s broken machine, as well as the pictures of the uncorrupted science team including WD and Sans, inside a room of the brother’s house. I believe the machine was meant to analyze and change timelines, as proven by Sans’ quote : “our reports showed a massive anomaly, timelines jumping left and right. stopping and starting…” .
If you notice, Sans says “our”, which indicates he worked with someone who was analyzing and working with timelines: WD. I believe that part of this machine was able to send someone into a specific part of a timeline, and allow them to change it. This would explain that if WD’s entire science team was with him watching this experiment, and only two of them (one being WD the other being Sans) contained the ability to protect themselves with a shield made up of the magical component they controlled (Sans controls bones, WD controls magic hands that can float and do multiple effects including shield). Keep in mind the only people that would be able to understand WD’s font would be those related or used to his language, the only people who knew him such as leaving Sans and WD’s science team. This means that whenever WD made an attempt to change the anomaly that was impending, something could have messed up in the machine which caused a malfunction and thus vaporizing most of the team and WD himself, but since WD would have protected himself and his team, instead of them dying, they were torn apart and left in tiny living bits of their souls in the code of the game excepting Sans who would have guarded himself and been unaffected. Due to only Sans and the science team knowing about WD, this would have meant that after this event only Sans would be the living person knowing of WD’s existence. When I say game code I mean game code, only few people in the game undertale can warp this code to do strange things, such as Sans warping the code to make his shortcuts, and the main character being able to reset themselves, as well as Flowey the flower being able to change this code and know of the changes that happen in the game when it is reset, closed, or saved by the person playing the game.
The only way to find the souls or bits of souls of each of the science team is by editing code, as stated before. It actually makes sense if you think about it; WD and his team were ripped to little pieces and scattered amongst the code, thus why you only see them if the code is disturbed, it awakens them to tell the tale of WD. This probably has you thinking; “Why would they create a machine for timeline analysis and manipulation.” That’s an answer that is easy but hard to give, Sans actually accuses the main character you play as in undertale to being the anomaly, when he is actually quite wrong. If you ever wondered when you play as the main character and the game has a form of realism and logic; why do you get messages that say “….This fills you with DETERMINATION.” That is not your conscience, that is the anomaly, the only other person to manipulate time, the only other person to be seen after death and be able to speak to you in your mind while narrating your actions in-game: Chara. The first fallen child, the child who befriended Flowey, and killed themselves to empower him to pass the barrier, Chara is the anomaly. She is the reason the timelines jumped left and right, she is the reason WD died attempting to find the problem, she was killed as a human with the power of time manipulation, thus why she can speak to you when you fall. She is the reason for all the grief of the underground, because of the power seen in the young prince before he became Flowey, the next children to fall were killed, thus causing the queen to leave and hide within the ruins. It was all because of Chara.
In conclusion I run through a miniature timeline of what happened. Chara fell, befriended the prince, learned of the barrier and killed herself to pass through it with the prince using her soul, he is killed but not before he releases her soul in a bed of flowers, He becomes a flower and still retains his ability to look over time with her soul power, she becomes a ghost and an anomaly, thus causing WD and his team to create a machine to analyze and effect time, they are then killed by the machine and spread amongst the underground, the king has begun to kill children causing the queen to go to the ruins, and the main character joins the underground to choose between Genocide or Pacifism. No I am not assuming genders, it is hard to pinpoint what Chara is so I refer to them as a her because they resemble a girl, and why else in the cutscenes of the story of her fall, would she enjoy flowers, not to be sexist, I’m just telling off of a viewpoint of relating specific traits to a gender by what life used to be like regarding the stereotypical girl. Now that that is out of the way, I leave you; the reader with this: this is a theory, the best I the writer can make with the information I hold. Of course there are some holes in the theory but that is what makes it a theory: belief in a possibility. Thank you, dear reader for reading.
