Every once in a while we decide to swim solely with the purpose of cleaning as much fishing line and gear off the reef. And at the beginning of our dive we witnessed the sad site of a young endangered sea turtle that had just been hooked by fishermen fishing from shore. Unknowingly they began to real him in while he was trying to struggling to get loose and stay near the surface to get his next breath. Thankfully @harryantipala grabbed his knife and cut him free before @tracyann_saltygirl went and gently removed the hook with the rest of the tako 🐙 leg they had used for bait, luring in the little turtle thinking he was going to get an easy meal. Unfortunately less than a half hour they had already hooked another turtle and he was flapping around being dragged over the rocks. When we got over there he was gone so hopefully they de-hooked him once they realized it was a turtle and there wasn't too much damage done. Filmed with #knektusa #goprodome with @keyana.poki and @thephilwaller while getting shots for a segment of their new show #UnderTheSeaWithKey! Full video on the Keiko Channel. Don't forget to come to our next reef cleanup with @oneoceandiving and @waterinspired on May 29th if you're on Oahu!
