Meanwhile, Freya's father received the news, she was out exploring the woods behind their home. She always loved finding new trails and seeing new things to let her imagination go wild with. One time she even swore she saw a fairy ring! It was gone the next day, but Freya always thought this forest was enchanted in a weird way. It even had interesting air she always thought it almost felt lighter.
Right now she's chasing some butterflies that just keep seeming to get away from her! She's persistent though, she knows she's bound to catch up them. Really though to her butterflies are like fairies in disguise. While she ran down the trail she spotted a sign that she had never seen before, but that's not a problem "I'll just read it on my way out." She then spotted the 2 elusive butterflies and ran towards them. She was caught off guard when she heard something whispering and it didn't sound fairy-like..
The whispers were coming from the archway just up ahead it would seem.
"Over here" the stone archway whispered.
Freya is normally pretty optimistic, but something felt kind of off.. She's reasonable she didn't REALLY expect to find fairies because that would be too good to be true. But a talking portal? What's weirder is even though her gut told her not to go forward she kept walking. It felt like it was drawing her in. Aside from the whisper there was a strange ambience emitting from it as well.
She was actually quite confused at this point and finally spoke:
"Are you talking to me?" she asked.
"Yes." It said very clearly. "I'm an omnipresent being. I know what is to come, alpha and omega if you will. And I need you to come closer. You intrigue me."
A bit hesitant she took a few steps closer and stopped. "But why would you need me to come closer? I can hear you fine from right here. Something about this still made her feel uneasy. The voice in her head was definitely yelling run, but her curiosity was just piqued.. Nothing like this has ever happened.
At home Ezequiel was finally done with the cops and was absolutely distraught.. The love of his life, just gone? Who would want to hurt her? She was always honest and said things might get crazy, but no information? No news? She always said when the time was right she would tell me what I need to know- which she should have done before saying "I do." and having our daughter.
He then realized he need to tell Freya. She needs to know. He stood up to wake her.
Freya now realizing she is having a full blown conversation with some sort of "omnipresent portal".
"Not many people can see me. Not many people are open to /new/ experiences." It responded.
"Well then, what does that mean for me? I thought most people wanted stuff like this to happen?". Still trying to now wrap her head around this stuff is just always around? What does it mean by people aren't open to new experiences?
"They aren't sure how they would comprehend, I suppose. Or they reason away these "anomalies" with excuses. Their mind is actually still quite closed off. Despite they apparent want for such things." It seemed excited to even have to explain.
"Well then what does that mean for me" she said getting frustrated, this thing sure wasn't direct, "You never answered that part."
"Why don't you come and take a look for yourself? You could just step through and find out." It said eerily. The portal started to get louder and it felt as though gravity was coming from the portal she felt herself being pulled in a strange way.
Freya was not in bed to Ezequiel's surprise. He knew the area quite well, though, and it was private property that Sigrid's family bought over 100 years ago. He knew there wasn't much trouble she get could get into. He knows Freya also suffers from insomnia and she takes strolls sometimes.
Still getting frustrated that Freya was not here to know what is going on, was not how he wanted his morning to start. Ezequiel then remembered, Sigrid did say that she bought a small vacation home in his name (she had quite a few connections). If something ever happened to her to take himself and Freya and leave. The property that was purchased was very "off-grid", but he knew there would be answers there.
Impatiently he now was waiting for Freya, it was imperative to leave quickly.
"NO!" she then stepped back away from the weird magnetic pull. And ran as fast as should could. The portal was still trying to pull her back.
"I think you would like to see what is to come, you would achieve it much sooner if you just saw for yourself." It pleaded still pulling her in.
"NO! I don't want to see! I don't want you to show me anything, you aren't meant to be seen."
Freya felt the magnet snap.
The ambience and the whispers stopped immediately. The sun shined down on Freya. How long was she talking to that thing? The sun was just down, surely that much time had not passed.
Growing more concerned and anxious about what is come and what is happening. He thought that dreadful feeling was just about Sigrid, but he didn't know how long Freya could have been gone. He peered in the garden just in case she was there, but he didn't see her.
Running as fast as she could, she started recognizing the ground. and the trees.. The lights for the property were just ahead.
"What the hell did I just see.. Whatever that was.. Wasn't good." she felt her stomach drop and she felt an awful sense of dread come over her. She knew something was wrong..
She approached the house and could see her father sitting at the kitchen table.
"Oh boy.. I should have just let the portal take me.. because he is gonna kill me.." she panted running up to the doors.
He looked pretty upset, but she knew to just stay quiet and take the wrath.
"Freya.. I have something I need to talk to you about. But first quickly grab some clothes and your favorite things. I'm going to meet you in the living room in 20 minutes." he said sternly, "Remember, 20 minutes."
She looked at him puzzled and said "Uh okay.."
"Oh, but I didn't forget how late you were. We are still going to discuss that." he said running up the stairs.
She noticed he was moving pretty quickly, so she ran to her room and grabbed her tutu, her books, and grabbed her favorite green shirt. She slammed the suitcase shut and ran into the living room, she was already done.
"I don't know why he tries to rush me when he can't even make it on time to anything." she sighed and then anxiously remembered the portal.
"See, I was here in 20 minutes. And you didn't even change shirts." she said sarcastically.
He didn't laugh like he usually would.. He was pale, and shaky. She knew something was up. "Dad? What is going on?"
He started bawling and yelled out, "Moms gone, Freya.. I don't know how it happened. I don't know what to do.. She was the planner I'm not good at this.. I had the cops contact me and said she has been missing.. her client said she never showed to their meeting.."
He gripped his fists so tight his knuckles turned pale.
Freya gasped and tears swelled..
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN?! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!"
"Look, sweetheart, all I know is your Mom was prepared for something like this.. I never took her seriously, but she always seemed dead set on it. We have to leave town.. I'm sorry. But we could be in danger."
Freya cried, but she knew her mom would be the level one. She wiped her tears and said, "Alright. Dad.." voice still breaking, "Let's go, I just need to grab one more thing from my room.." She stood and ran upstairs.
He agreed and waited at the door for her.
Freya grabbed her diary. She almost forgot it. She'll need it for the memories now..
"I wonder.. how Mom knew something would happen.. I don't remember her ever saying anything to me? And how did she just disappear? I remember Mom telling me she would call me after her meeting right before she left.. So where did she go? Something feels weird. I don't have time for this, she wouldn't be worrying until we were safe."
She ran down stairs and ran into the car. She slammed the door shut, looking out the window one more time at her childhood home. All her memories, all of her friends, gone..
