The Unexpected Layover - AU Oneshot
Betty, a mid 20 something is constantly traveling for work. You could say she’s spent more time in the air than on land in the last year.
Thousands of miles later, she lands herself eligible for a day’s pass to the sky lounge at the airport. (So long as she pays a small, work expensible fee to gain entrance)
Totally in awe of how the 1% of travelers live in this catered wonderland, Betty takes a seat across the from the least snobbish person she can find in the relatively crowded area.
Between making edits to her presentation, she steals glances at the man across from her, something about him seeming familiar. On occasion, he returns a look or two
She receives a glass of champagne from a waitress with a note on the napkin, “Join me for a real drink?” The mystery man making eye contact with her, confirming he was the sender of the drink.
After grabbing drinks at the airport bar, Betty discovers that the man she’s talking to is none other than J. Jones, a new author she hasn’t been able to put down. Having never been photographed for one of his novels before, Betty had no idea that she had spent the day silently flirting away with one of her favorite authors.
When she mentions how exhausted she is, madly craving a nap, he makes her an offer to use his room in the airport hotel to catch some Zs.
Betty couldn’t have planned a better come on if she tried.
Because I was traveling and had ideas!!! One day I’ll do this. Saving the idea.
