Cool Culture is honored to announce our next artist whose work will be auctioned at our UnGala, Artist Hiram Maristany! Hiram first picked up a camera as a teenager in 1959 and has used cameras since to document his world in El Barrio — or East Harlem — a close and vibrant community that regularly dealt with poverty and violence at the time. A trailblazer in the community, he served as director of El Museo del Barrio in the 1970s; Hiram was also an original member and the official photographer of the Young Lords party. His photographs show metaphors for hope in scenes of everyday life, without glossing over the grit. His work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian, the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) and more. Our next artist whose work will be auctioned at our 2018 UnGala is Theda Sandiford! Theda transforms found and meticulously collected materials into mixed media works. She photographs her process and digitally manipulates images to extend the narrative as part of her personal mythology. Her work has been showcased across New York City and New Jersey, in Los Angeles, California and Atlanta, Georgia. One of her artworks, “Selfie Joy”, made an appearance in BET’s television series Being Mary Jane and is currently VP of Commercial Partnerships in Universal Music Group, one of the 3 largest music companies around the globe. Presenting Brianna McCarthy whose work will be auctioned at our UnGala! Brianna is a mixed media visual communicator working and living in Trinidad and Tobago. She is a self-taught artist and aims to create a new discourse examining issues of beauty, stereotypes, representation as well as documenting the process – particularly poignant in an ever smaller digitally connected world. We are thrilled to present Artist Adrienne Elise Tarver whose work will be auctioned at our UnGala! Adrienne is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. She is known for her paintings, works on paper, watercolors and collages. She has exhibited nationally and abroad, including solo exhibitions at Victori + Mo in Brooklyn, BRIC Project Room in Brooklyn, AM Gallery in Sydney, Australia, and Art Matrix Gallery in Chicago.
