Violet couldn't remember the last time she had felt free. She had always been under Rafe's control even when she was overseas, away from him. They had been together for so long, she had forgotten what freedom was, Barty had shown her that, he had shown her kindness and was a gentleman.

But she had to return home and she knew that he would be waiting for her and that scared her, no matter how much Barry tried to comfort her and wanted to take her home, she knew if her parents saw her with the local drug dealer, she would be under house arrest.

She said good bye to the male that pushed his way into her heart, having dropped him off at his home, having pressed a kiss of thanks to his lips before driving home. She had made it up to her bedroom and wasn't surprised to see her boyfriend laying on her bed, waiting for her.

"you've hurt me Rafe." She said in a soft voice, not moving from the door. She didn't want to be close to him. "You've really hurt me. I'm leaving, I'm going back to Italy, I need to be away from you, I'm scared to be around you Rafe, you've hurt me too much."

Violet didn't know the last time she was so calm and so happy. She had gotten away from Rafe finally, it was harder than she originally thought it was going to be, he could manipulate her like no-one else could.

Barry had become her protector. She didn't believe that she would ever be with anyone like him. Her life had been planned out for her. She would married Rafe and have his heirs but that was not to be. Instead, she escaped her abuser and fell for the local drug dealer.

She had no idea what movie was playing as she curled up on his bed in the trailer he called his home. She was returning to Italy in a few days time and was spending every moment with him before having to leave for the mainland. Her parents already had believed she had left, everyone did. She didn't need Rafe coming around, knowing that he was still trying to get her back.

She let out a squeal as he pulled her back into his chest. Her hand reached to take his and intertwined them. She wiggled her bum against his crouch unknowingly as she tried to get comfortable.

Sofia had always been the It girl, she had always gotten whatever she wanted but the one thing she was never allowed to touch was Rafe Cameron. No, he was off limits because as cruel as she could be to others she was loyal and Violet was her best friend. She would never come between them.

But rumours swelled around that they broke up for good and Violet had called her updating her on her life and telling her about how abusive Rafe could be and that she had met someone that showed her it wasn't normal and treated her with the love and kindness that she has always wanted; though she did not speak his name.

All Sofia cared about was the fact that the man she had wanted for years was finally free in the market and she was going to take full advantage of it.

Once they had ended the phone call. Sofia made sure that her makeup was perfect and left to go to the country club where she had a feeling that the man would be there drinking away.

"Now a handsome guy like yourself shouldn't be drinking alone." She said when she walked up to the table he was sitting at, standing across from him, wondering just how this would turn out.. "do you want some company?"

It had been a year since Barry had first saved Violet from Rafe. She never knew how abusive and manipulate he was until she was away from him and Barry showering her in love and affection. He truly was the most wonderful man she had ever met and she could help but love him.

She had been back in the OBX for a couple days, most of those days were spent inside Barry's trailer while they reaquainted themselves with one another before she decided they needed to get out and get some fresh air.

She held his hand as she pulled him along the main thoroughfare of the island. She was in her normal attire of a cute flowy sundress and some ballet flats, laughing at something Barry said, leading him to a small cafe that she loved. She turned around and pulled herself closer to him, placing a kiss on his lips unaware that someone had been watching them from afar.

Ellie had borrowed one of the guest rooms at the Cameron's to use as a dressing room before this evening's event. She’d gotten there a little over an hour ago and now there was roughly ten minutes before she had to ride with him over to the Island Club.

The event: Midsummers. Her Date: Rafe Cameron

Had you told this information to Ellie last summer she would have laughed.

Midsummers. An event she had never imagined herself going to. There would be too many people. She wouldn't fit in. A Pogue in a crowd of Kooks. People getting together to just show off their status, of which she had little. Yes, some Kooks were nice, she tutored quite a few of the families that would be there and knew they were decent people but there was still that feeling of condescension toward her hovering in the air, especially from those who pitied her because they knew her dad.

She had yet to put her heels on, but her dress was on, and her hair was styled into an updo, small wildflowers of various blue shades woven in like a crown. The dress —a light blue tie strap tea length dress— had been picked out a couple weeks ago when she went with Wheezie and Sarah to a few shops on the mainland.

“Is it too late to back out?” Ellie asked as she started to pace the room after opening the door for Rafe.

"Okay, okay, how about Barbie and Ken?" she looked up to Rafe who walked next to her down the street. She'd managed to convince him to go on a trip to the mainland to look for Halloween costumes with her. Even if he didn't agree to a couple's costume, she'd made it clear that she was going to dress up whether he did or not.

"We're both blonde enough, just wear a pink polo or something with some white khakis and a cardigan around your shoulders" she suggested then looked around the area to try and spot the costume shop. She had gotten a look at his closet, he had to have at least one pink collared shirt.

Once they made it to the costume shop, she greeted one of the employees and hurried over to the first adult costume rack she saw, not caring if he tried to keep up with her.

"No... no... hmm definitely not...," she mumbled as she shuffled through various options then moved to the next aisle. After looking some more, she spotted a captain's hat on a hook of to the side. "Oh, what about a sailor and..." she pulled a mermaid style seashell bra into view but left it hanging on the rack yet, "a mermaid?" she offered up. "I might get a different top, but you get the idea," she shrugged.

She usually tried to go all out for Halloween, as much as she could on a budget anyways. She'd learned how to get pretty crafty with costumes, but this year she was actually able to get stuff from a shop which was new. Last year she'd been a scarecrow which mainly required makeup and an old flannel.

In public, mostly at parties. Ellie was the one lounged across Rafe’s lap. Either that or she was at least sat on the arm of the chair or on the couch next to him.

Their seating arrangement now however –her sat at one end of the couch, him laying across the piece of furniture, his head in her lap– was something they mostly did when spending time with just each other. A chance for him to decompress. That’s what she hoped it helped with anyways. A time when he didn’t need to focus on anything except maybe the tv show they had on.

Plus, she didn’t mind it since it meant she could play with his hair. She took every opportunity she could to do that.

“A penny for your thoughts?” She asked quietly, not wanting to disturb him too much if he was trying to simply relax. He didn’t have to have a reason for laying his head in her lap, but she usually made sure to check if he was okay anyways. If she was one-hundred percent sure he was in a good mood, she’d usually add ‘Rafael’ to the end of that, just for the fun of it.

She looked down at him for a moment while she gently ran her fingers through his hair, running the tips of her fingers gently across his scalp. His hair was soft, clean, and just long enough that she could hold strands of it between her fingers. She even made sure to be careful if she happened to come across any knots.
