space and time

My intention with this painting was to present time as a dimension inseparable from espace. I merged time and space in this collage by weaving the passage of time and its effects on a space. The strips interact to successively obscure and highlight one sheet, then another, creating a kind of rhythm that weaves the image like a basket or carpet. The non-visible parts create an effect reminiscent of the limits of human memory. The space represents a generic living room that has been rearranged, with some of the furniture undergoing changes or repositioning. This is not an improvement, but an unavoidable modification. I wanted to look specifically at the evolution of space over time, and how its earlier or later versions influence our perception of time.

The circular patterns and geometric shapes contrast with the more organic, fluid cutouts. The limited complementary colors create a juxtaposition between magenta and green. These chromatic interactions produce visual vibrations and illusions. The addition and subtraction of motifs and cutouts creates a radiance, an infinitely looping circuit that mimics blood circulation, breathing and the cyclicality of life.
