It took me a while to talk my sister in to letting me post this. But I finally convinced her. So... here is the letter she sent to Jim on what would have been mine and Jim’s first Thanksgiving.
Hello. My name is Sabrina but you can call my Rina. I’m Sebastian’s older (haha) twin sister. I am hoping he’s mentioned me at least once or twice. Today, here in America is Thanksgiving Day. I happen to be at my Aunt Maureen’s house in Upstate New York for the holiday with our mother. My aunt had this idea, a rather clever one to be honest.
Instead of just writing down what we are thankful for on little pieces of paper, she asked us to write a letter to the one person in our lives we are most thankful for. So, here I am, writing to you.
Why you ask? Well, you gave me my brother back. You see, after everything that happened, until Basher and I each went away to school, I spoke to him exactly twice. Mother her foot down and Basher was allowed two phone calls. One on Christmas and one on our birthday. So when he got to Oxford and he had the freedom to call again, we talked as often as we could. He spoke of you each time. But there was a despondency in him that scared me.
At the end of last month I called him. It was my turn. And... he sounded so normal. So much like himself. Like my brother again. Finally he told me about running into you on campus. I could hear everything had changed for the better.
So, for that alone I am thankful. I am thankful to have my Sebastian back in my life. And to be honest, he’s better. He’s so much more alive. He’s happy. And that’s because of you.
I just wanted to say I am thankful for
