Seriously though, I’m so glad to finally hear from someone who is getting annoyed by the incessant racism. And by annoyed, I mean exhausted and infuriated and harmed. I just sat through dinner with two white people who tried to argue that darkie wasn’t an offensive term, because “people in Scotland just use it, and it’s totally normal there.” Uh, my black mother would beg to differ, after years of having the slur thrown at her while living in England as a child. When I told them about her experience, they fucking started talking about how hard it is to be Canadian when visiting Scotland because they got ~stereotyped~, and how ~that sort of racism~ was just something you had to accept. After that I was just too freaked out to argue, so I endured their company for a full hour before I stumblingly left. I have a terrible headache too, and a fever, so it might not have just been fury and discomfort that caused it. Anyway, yes! Let’s rant, and work for the SHRC, and try to make the whole Queen’s experience better for ourselves!
