If you’re ever in Madrid, the Sala Equis is a unique, fun place to visit. It’s an old movie theater that was turned into a cinema, restaurant, and performance space.
The original crumbling walls still remain and are now covered with ivy. Theater seating has been replaced by bleachers, beach chairs & a swing.
A large canvas replaced the movie screen.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the food counter/bar is under the screen, facing the audience.
A glass roof was put in to flood the space with lots of natural light.
At night, pink neon in the shape of the original architecture takes over.
On the 2nd fl., there’s a pink bar.
The lounge has lots of plush dark velvet.
Or, you can opt to sit in red velvet balcony style seating.
Sleek industrial restroom.
This place is pretty cool.
