What is Editorial Design?

Editorial design is a large industry of written media such as; Magazines, Newspapers and book design including numerous other forms of written material. Although editorial design is the creation of written media due to the advancement of technology has forced countless newspaper publications and Magazine companies out of business, most of those that have survived this change to today have adapted to embrace new technologies expanding or moving their media to electronic platforms such as developing mobile apps, online website articles and email newsletters. These new platforms capitalize on the exponential march of technology allowing these companies to stay in business and continue to make profits, this is often achieved by making these new platforms subscription based services, this is particularly true of mobile apps from smartphones and tablets.

 Editorial designers make up one of the largest parts of the graphic design industry. Their job is to work on the layout and visual aesthetics of written and digital material. the different formats of editorial design require different aesthetics such as the style commonly found in magazines would differ from the style of a product catalogue.

Editorial design is much more than words on a page or screen, it is not only the composition of the words but the design of the page itself, the arrangement of images and colour, the organisation of information, the liberation of knowledge, making connections through the information given and the and how it is received by the reader.

Without Words 1st Twisters Performance

First rehearsal / 12th October

Today everyone was not in a good mood to be rehearsing , which I am quite angry about as I was happy to spend the morning rehearsing happily But things where just. It working out , everyone was tired , I was especially and I think everyone needs a good rest over the weekend , to be prepared for Monday and hopefully we can have a fluent rehearsal then . Agar I have nothing much more to say about today ,which I did , but I really don't have anything technical or good to say

Tuesday 8th October / Performance In the Studio Space

Today was it , the finale, the final performance the big show we had been looking forward to since the beginning of the course, a whole six weeks of hard work finally finished , but to be fair I already miss this project, but am still looking forward , to starting our next project , the next encounter , the genre concert, I am very intrigued to find out what genre I am doing ??

All in all I believe the show couldn't of gone any better, the atmosphere in the space , the nervous tension before starting the piece, helped to bring our piece to life, which was a very special couple of minutes and even the piano was quiet at the start of the piece, the singers managed to still power out the harmonies and give the piece the extra special touch to it , the piano problem was sorted half way during the piece , so everything still worked fluently and went well and smoothly, also another problem in the first performance was that our guitarist Callum's guitar lead stopped working and the guitar stooped towards the end , where it was crucially needed to give a smooth but effective transition into the third section of the song. 

So altogether I thank the tutors for one of the best opportunity's to perform today , and I am going to throughly mss working with the group I was working with , they are all very good friends of mine now , and I hope they have fun in the next project, it will be hard but at the same time , it is sad that we are saying goodbye for now !!!

Monday 7th October , Soundcheck In The Studio Space

Today was the day before the show , the soundcheck, personally I enjoy the soundcheck even more than the show, because it is also interesting to see what the technicians are doing , and the process of testing mics and amps e.t.c is interesting to watch , as I have been always been interested in the magic of the soundboard and what it can do. 

I also helped the most I could to set up in the studio space, doing things like setting up the kit , bringing equipment down , from the rehearsal booths and being the best hand i could . 

The soundcheck itself went really well , we had to go twice as the singers were a bit late with the change to the end section, but other than that, I was very impressed with what we were producing and what we were doing in the piece , I am extremely looking forward to performing the piece 3 times tomorrow. 

It should be extremely fun !

Without Words/ Unit 40 Evaulation

I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed doing this project, there has been ups and downs , but I wouldn't change anything that is happened , I have made some of the most productive and special music I think I have ever created through the tool of improvisation , at the same time I have made some of the best friends within my group through the project. My group (group 5 ) consists of 4 vocalists ( Frankie , Rosie. Louisa and Rachel ) 2 guitarists (Callum , Josh ) and our bassist (Jack ) . All of these people mentioned have been amazing during this project , all ways on time , always present and ready for whatever , they all have great motivation and are obviously have a passion for music , as I do which is a very big passion , personally I am very proud of our groups performance and final performance . From the first day of rehearsal everyone has been motivated and ready to perform to the highest degree , for instance in. The first day of being in the practise room our bassist Jack and Guitarist Josh came up within minutes the basic bass and guitar line for our middle section of the performance , and we were the first group to record that day , I was very proud of this as it really did start the piece of with good terms and formed the basic structure to the piece . There are many things to be proud of during this project and although the performance is on Tuesday , I still feel that we have completed this , and we are going to use the performance in a way to celebrate our achievement, the singers were always open to new ideas and were prepared to listen, which I was surprised about as in the past , I have been subject to being angry with some vocalists decisions, so I was very proud of Rosie ,Frankie , Rachel and Louisa and there motivation and decisions during the rehearsal situations . The only bad thing I can say about the project is that ,the instrumentalists didn't always agree we what was going on and didn't like certain chord structure and , some certain people in the group tended to noodle and play instruments while other decisions were being made by other members of the group , I must admit I am regular offender of this I need to be able to control myself , when serious decisions are being made . The other problem was the fact that we would tend to go regular breaks , and this meant , maybe some days not enough work was being put in , to make the piece even better , but in the end everything turned out right . I think the thing I enjoyed the most in the project was the record in session last Thursday , I was meant to be the day of our final performance , but some events occurred meaning that we could not perform , but personally I love being a studio environment it is very interesting and personally I was very nervous about it , as I wanted to get the track in one take as ŵe did and I was very proud of that. In conclusion I thought this was a very interesting and good opening project to work on , It gave us a insight in the future of performance during this course and I am thoroughly looking forward to the next performance and , I looking forward to the playing on Tuesday , I would like to also take this opportunity to thank the music tutors for such an amazing time so far also !!
