The Joshua Tree foundation is a charity local to the Northwich, Cheshire, area and works towards helping families that have had to deal with the tragedy of Child cancer.
Their main aim is to provide emotional support to the families of children with cancer, and the children experiencing this traumatic event themselves. And to make sure that the children have as normal life as possible during this time.
They provide family activities, half term activities, and regular Saturday clubs for the children and their families to attend. Where they can participate in games and activities to take their mind off of their current problems. This can range from standard play time and crafting activities, to family trips to the theater to watch fun shows.
The Joshua Tree also set up charity events to raise money to help the children and their families, as well as except donations on their website linked above. They have a full roster of volunteers who worked free of charge to help keep the children happy during dark times. And they are funded by the “Big Lottery Fund” who also help provide money for the activities and general running of the clubs and events.
This wonderful charity was founded in 2006 by David and Lynda Hill after their son Josh was diagnosed with leukemia. They said that they felt isolated during this time and that their emotions were at an all time low. But when they all took a trip to Blackpool they found that the activities and distractions on offer there gave them a much welcomed sense of relief and fun as their son was able to be happy. And this is what gave them the idea to set up this charity, named after their son, so they could help anyone else experiencing these tragic events.
I attempted to reach out to the charity to maybe have a chat or even just a back and forth email conversation with anyone working there, just to get a more personal look into how the charity works. But to no avail as they are very busy people. So i had to conduct a lot of secondary research to find out more on this charity. Most information was taken from this website-http://www.thejoshuatree.org.uk/faqs
This a survey i did to see how well known the Joshua Tree foundation is. This is acts as a big indicator as to how effective this charity can be. More well known charities are essentially more effective because they have more chance of receiving donations and help from volunteers. This is based off of a survey i made myself.
This is another charity known as ‘SaltScape’.And as you can see by the data i collected, this charity would be more effective and achieve its goal easier as a high percentage of the people asked know about Salt Scape. Now this doesn't mean if i asked another 6 people that the results would be the same, however, it is a good indication of the likelihood that more people know and support SaltScape.
As you can see by the third results. I was wrong. Despite more people knowing about it, it would appear SaltScape is less effective than Joshua Tree foundation. Which just goes to show how effective The Joshua Tree really is.
