2D Animation Evaluation
The Brief
For this Task, I was asked to design and create a 2D animation. This animation had to include sound which could be chosen by the student, the only restriction being that it couldn’t be offensive.
My Idea
From the beginning, I wanted to use audio from a popular YouTube channel called Game Grumps. I spent quite some time sifting through their videos trying to find something that is both funny and good to animate, without it being offensive in some way. It was difficult.
I eventually found some audio that I thought would work well as an animation, edited it and then went about creating a storyboard.
What Went Well
I think that, overall, the task went well.
I think my storyboard was relatively sound and I managed to stick to it almost exactly while animating.
My character’s ended up looking okay although they did have to go through a few re-designs before I got something that I even remotely liked.
What Could Be Improved
I think the backgrounds may have not had enough detail in them for them to be interesting, although that may just draw the viewers’ attention towards the characters more.
I wish I had begun animating the sequence sooner as then it wouldn’t have felt quite as rushed.
I meant to have Psyduck perform an action but, due to poorly managed time, I couldn’t.
Feedback
Paris: I like this for all the wrong reasons XD You got great graphics and animation!
Jake: It’s really good.
Grant: Great sequence Michael, pretty funny and it’s clearly well put together. Awesome job.
Sophie: The lip-syncing of the characters worked very well with the audio. The actual drawing of the characters was very good quality.
People generally said that the animation was good but I think it could be improved quite a lot. For example, I feel there should have been more movement throughout the animation, the backgrounds should be more interesting and the characters could have been further developed to be more engaging.
