door opening Kate: er.... come on through! Living room's through there. Apologies about the pajamas, just settled down for an early night. I'll never learn, will I? Sam: Sorry. Kate: Oh, don't worry. If I'd wanted to sleep, I'd have gotten a different job. Just the two of you, is it? Osgood: We rang Josh, but we didn't get an answer.

Kate: Probably got it on silent. (breath). How long do you think this will take? Am I going to need a cup of coffee? Osgood: I think we all might. Kate: One of those, is it? I'll make a pot.

Kate: Well, it does all sound convincing, I'll give you that. Osgood: I'm sensing a "but." Kate: Observant as ever. Yes, I'm just not convinced it's something we need to worry about. Sam: which is exactly the problem! Whatever was going on at that house, whoever's behind it, they're really very keen that we don't look into it any further, which makes me really want to.

Kate laughs Kate: But I know what happened! There was no raid, we didn't do anything! Sam: We thought of that. If they're altering memories--which, I'll agree, is still an 'if' at the moment--then we need an independent witness, one who doesn't have any memory at all. Kate: I don't follow.

Osgood: well, not the same sort of memory. CCTV. There are cameras up and down that street. If we went into that house, there'll be evidence. We'll see it. Sam: we'll prove what happened, one way or the other. Kate: I suppose I could order you up those recordings, if it'll get you off my back. They should still have them stored somewhere.

Sam: Thank you. You won't regret it. Kate: Don't make me. You'll have them in the morning. Now, off you go, I have an urgent appointment with a hot water bottle I'm very anxious to keep.

UNIT: SILENCED

From Big Finish Productions and the Worlds of Doctor Who

The capable UNIT team faces the Silence. I planned to listen to these four stories today while going for a nice long hike, but I seem to have forgotten all about it. Okay, I admit it, that’s a Silence joke. Pretty good stuff. I especially love Ingrid Oliver and Warren Brown in these. Ramon Tikaram is also excellent.

The creepiest thing about these is the similarities between the plan underway by the Silence, and real-life events. The mysterious Edvard Munch-like aliens enact a plot which seems to be intended to help a fascist, corporatist, idiot with no political experience become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. It is not mentioned in the script whether this Kenneth LeBlanc person wears overly-long neck ties, but it was unnerving, nonetheless. 

This is not the best boxed set of Doctor Who-related dramas I’ve heard recently, but then the standards are extremely high from Big Finish, so I can definitely say I enjoyed them. Now that I’ve listened to this one, I can move on to the next UNIT box set which I’m even more excited about! 

UNIT: ASSEMBLED

UNIT: Assembled brings the modern-era UNIT team together with members of the UNIT family from the third Doctor’s era from the 1970s (or was it the 1980s?). Looks like they’ll be confronting Silurians.

I have a headcanon now that Josh Carter doesn’t like having to spend too much time alone after what happened with the Silents. for awhile after the events of UNIT: Silenced, at least, he spends as much time at the UNIT headquarters or just generally around other people as possible, and as little as he can get by with at his own apartment. because if he’s by himself, then there’s no one else around to notice if he’s acting odd or forgetting things again if his memories can’t be trusted. and even if there are others around and they’re ALL being manipulated together, that’s still better than being lost and brainwashed all on your own like he was before.
