One time, I was drawing the fourth doctor when someone came up behind me and asked, "Is that Bob Dylan, or is he Amish?"

I do a thing called doctor who Saturday on my Instagram spam in which I take notes on episodes of doctor who as I watch them (gives me something to do with my hands and helps me pay attention). Here’s some stuff I got down for Mawdryn Undead just now 😁

I think it’s jsut that, when the doctor touches Turlough, he doesn’t expect it and it kinda resets his thoughts, so he doesn’t really get a minute to over think and stress because he’s busy reactin

Also if we look at it through the lens that they are lovers (which I do and will), the doctor knows somethin is up with Turlough and hasn’t mentioned it at all. He reads people very well, and can probably tell Turlough has a relationship with men that is mostly like a wet cat. He’s very scared and erratic about them, but finds the absolute most comfort in them because he seeks their validation. Unfortunately it has got him in a lot of unfortunate situations (we could consider the Black Guardian a metaphor for grooming, in this case. Reminder Turlough is an adult).

So the doctor probably can tell this from how he’s interacted with the brigadier, and he can tell he’s not a human by the way he’s so easily picked up on things, and he can tell he’s preoccupied by something else that’s too sensitive to ask outright. (I.E the black guardian grooming him).

Touching him subtly, giving him small tasks, and involving him are all ways to keep Turlough engaged without him freaking out, or even doing self destructive behaviours out of want to please, impress, and gain validation.

Turlough gets left alone for more than a few seconds, he panics and overthinks the doctor’s intentions. If he’s left for a few minutes, he starts talking to the black guardian about killing the doctor again. A self destructive behaviour of runnin back to the person manipulating him, even though he knows he’s in danger, because he convinces himself the doctor is out to get him. Hence the doctor keeping him close. As long as Turlough is at least lookin at him runnin about, he hasn’t got the time to overthink and return to whatever destructive behaviour the doctor hasn’t figured out yet
