Uptown News is out

We just got our hands on a copy of the Uptown News (a community newsletter for Pyrmont & Ultimo - put out by UnitingCare - Harris Community Centre). This is the first time we've found one of these in our letterbox, and it looks like they've done a good job of it.

We had a read through and picked out a few super things that are offered to the community in Ultimo. To get a copy of the whole newsletter, visit the Harris Community Centre at 97 Quarry Street, Ultimo, or check your letterbox, that might help too.

You can take a traditional Cantonese opera class on Tuesdays, 10.30am, call Rita Ho 0416 233 268.

You can start learning Hungarian Dance - Tuesdays, 8pm, beginners welcome, contact Gary 0425 268 505.

There's a free bus service that can take Pyrmont / Ultimo residents to Broadway Shopping Centre and the Marrickville Metro? Fridays. 

This one is more up Penultimo's alley -- Freestyle Martial Arts is also on Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6.15pm - for adults and kidlets, call Jonathon 0401 514 902. 

Tai Chi classes in English (Fusion style!) $2 per class, Wednesdays 10.30am, call 9552 1140. 

The Pyrmont Ultimo Glebe "Men's Shed" meets on Thursdays 8am to 2pm (whoa, long meeting), if interested, call Ross 0414 660 839. Presumably you have to be a man. 

Chinese cooking classes are on Fridays at 10am, $5 per class, call 9552 1140. 

The Over-50s Multicultural Friendship Group (they do Bingo, Mah Jong, Karaoke, excursions, and more) meets on Fridays at 10.30am, call 9552 1140. 

In addition to this, the Harris Community Centre offers English speaking and Chinese-speaking community services, food support for people in need, English classes, a playgroup for tots, Chinese massage for seniors, ballet, caseworkers, tax help, Chinese poetry classes, Japanese storytelling class for kids, Computer skills classes, BBQs ...
