A New Male Soloist at the Mariinsky?!
I just read that there is a young Korean dancer, Juen Min-Chul, with the Universal Ballet in Seoul will join the Mariinsky in February 2025 as a soloist. He won bronze at the YAGP in 2023 — so he's very young. His hiring as a soloist speaks to his talent, and I also think this speaks to the immediate need for the Mariinsky to replenish its soloist ranks, especially on the men's side as there are very few standouts. It's an interesting move — and I cannot help but wonder if this is a reflection on the quality of male dancers emerging out of Vaganova. Here's a supercut of him in a few different variations. Elegant. Beautiful technique and lines. I'm excited to see him on stage.
