MARIA KANNON
Archetype : Unknown
During the warring era of Japan. Christians are persecuted and is forced to convert back to the local religion. These hidden Christians would disguise the Madonna and her child into a Kannon (Guanyin) statue because of its similarity (Clothed in robe, being a woman, often depicted carrying a child) to avoid persecution and worship them in secret.
They look indistinguishable from a regular child rearing Kannon statue, but if you inspect closely, you can see features like crosses on it.
