I watched project hail mary twice
I plan on watching iron lung once it releases on the 31st
The only knowledge I have of the iron lung lore are a bunch of bloodymary fan arts and these two posts [remember to add hyperlinks]
So this is Unkown Blood a bloodymary au made for the sake that I don't know anything about iron lung
(This will be written very loosely and honestly very similar to how I make drafts, also i have not read the book so im not familiar with alot of the stuff in it such as rocky's speech pattern once the translator is dropped)
It's been a while since Grace made the decision to stay in Erid and he has not once thought to look back
He knows earth could try contacting him, but it would take years to reach him
Wich is why he is so surprised when rocky comes running (and rolling) down the beach with the news that a message was recieved by the hail mary
A distress call was not what he expected, even less for it to be directing him to earth and saying to be there quickly
Grace would have doubted going back to help earth. Why would they call him? Did the taomeba not work? Was there something else that went wrong? There was no way it could reach from Earth to Erid before it would be too late so he probably wouldnt go. The radio travel distance was entirely too long, and yet he didn't doubt answering this call
And that's because it wasn't from earth
This message wasnt sent a decade ago, but days. Specifically 34 earth hours ago, and yet it had already reached him, because it wasn't from earth
"Grace is crazy for this" Rocky chimed in as grace loaded some materials from hail mary to Rocky's personal ship he had gotten a while ago
"I know but, I also have to know what happened. I mean- why would a message close enough to reach us in less than two days want me to go to earth. Something had to have happened" grace carried a few boxes of materials best as he could into the smaller ship
"Trip will take too long, will you even make it?" Rocky had a point there, the trip from Erid to earth was ridiculously long, and Grace was already entering his 50s
"Don't act like you're not coming with me, specially not after you basically begged me to"
"I did not beg to go with you. Why is grace being such a smart-ass?" Grace simply laughed at this. Even after years, he still found it funny that Rocky would swear so much and so casually, also because he had basically begged to go for 'safety' reasons, grace knew that wasn't the actual reason but still
"Cmon rock, I can't just do nothing, and who knows, maybe if we leave soon enough we'll meet em on the way to earth! There's no way they get there in less than a few years" Grace dropped the box of packed taomeba food over on the side as Rocky loaded in his old 'hamster ball'
"Your personal ship is very fast, I'm sure we'll make it"
"Personal ship was not made for mission work. What if you damage it or something!" Rocky's tone wasn't really concerned, it was clear he was just trying to stall
"That's another reason you're coming with me. If you weren't the one driving I'd be taking the hail mary" Grace picked up another box of even more food, this time the materials for some classic 'meburgers'. The ship, altho smaller than the hail mary, was big enough to take some basic production of taomeba food on board, but he was not going to spend the entire trip on that. He already knew what that was like and did not wish to relive it
"This is stupid still" Rocky tapped at grace's leg in annoyance, an eridian version of a friendly shove grace came to learn after Adrian almost tackled him. God grace did not expect Adrian to be so tall
"Well, not the first time I do something seemingly stupid and suicidal, just the first time I get to chose to" Rocky was not happy at this comment, but humor was one of grace's way of coping, they both learned this over the years of isolation on their way to erid
"WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT" Rocky screeched as what he had been met with after a week travel was some intangible swirl, almost like some kind of cloud of something? It sure did match how grace had described clouds
Grace jumped out of the ties that were stopping him from floating out during his sleep in concern, putting on the airtight suit and floating his way around the tunnels and hallways "What what happened!?" He floated his best over to where rocky was piloting the ship, almost crashing onto him
Depsite the fact that eridians didn't really need one, Rocky's personal ship had been equipped with a windshield to let Grace see outside. 'You were never even supposed to use this ship' yeah sure, say that to the fully pressurized ship with a bunch of windows and even a whole separate airtight room for him to sleep in with a fully breathable oxygen mix so he wouldnt have to keep the suit on the whole time (with rocky tunnel access ofc)
"I have no idea what that is but it's pulling us in!" Was all the answer he got, seeing out through the clear panel he was met with a terrifying sight, a mix of purples and blues folding in on themselves, and bringing the ship in with it
"What the Heck is that!?" Grace Held on to the chair like thing next to Rocky he had crashed onto earlier, doing his best to sit on it. Whatever that thing was reminded him of something he thought only possible in theory "a worm hole" he said to himself
Rocky was doing his best to pull out and away from the portal like thing when grace brought his attention to something else
"Wait rocky look! What is that!?" Grace pointed at something, some kind of red metal pod
"Holy shit" Rocky stared at the pod seeing through its walls and finding a living being inside
"That is the ship!" Rocky pointed at the pod at Grace's shock
"What!? How is that the ship that called us? It looks like a rusty can of food!"
"Well I don't know but that is it! Creature inside even looks like human!" Rocky sounded concerningly excited at the fact that apparently what had called them was another human, grace sure as he'll wasn't as happy
"Is it me or is that ship going into the worm hole" Grace was mostly speaking to himself as he followed the movement of the small ship with his finger
"You better not be saying what I think youre saying" Rocky was not excited at the idea Grace was setting up
"Yeap, we follow it into the thing" Grace clapped his hand as usual and pointed towards the red-orange ship as it drifted closer and closer to the folding colors
"Grace is very stupid for this!" Rocky yelled as he stopped the thrusters from pulling away and started drifting closer into the cloud-like object once again

"What the...." stratt stood there on the entrance of the facilities she was in as she stared dumbfounded at the man infront of her
"Heyyyyyy stratt" Grace waved hi, just as confused as she was and multitasking into setting up the translator back again, he knew it was a good idea to bring it with them. Rocky just stood next to Grace and saying every thing he had to say to stratt
