Six Sentence Sunday

Here is an AU of my main fic Unlikely Training Partners (UTP). An alternative POV we haven't seen, as Tairn would say, "The Sunshine One".

That for a moment, no matter how fleeting, Violet would see I'd give her the moon and stars. But not the sun, because I could be her warmth. The thing she wakes up to every morning. Her gravity. I wanted to be her sunshine. But I was only her shadow.

Fucking finallllly got back into the much needed head space for UTP. So here’s a little spoiler (exclusive to tumblr heheh) so I don’t actually give up on the story. Not beta’ed:

I bite the inside of my cheek. "I don't even know where we start."

"The beginning," Dain says. "We start at the beginning, Vi. You deserve the whole truth." I nod, my pulse beginning to strum as I stare at him.

Two chapters of UTP have come back from beta (thankyou to the lovely @writing-love-and-witchcraft ) and I’m itching to post them. But I won’t. So instead, here are two snippets.

Chapter 50

I wrench him back into me, willing his pain to become my pain, so we can share the burden.

He isn't alone.

I wish he told me. I wish I knew. How did this happen to my best friend for years… and I never noticed? Guilt settles deep, etching itself to the very marrow of my bones. It was always about my pain. My condition. My losses.

Chapter 51

But maybe, just maybe, if Vi and I broke up, my father couldn't ask me to read her. If she hated me as intensely and loudly as she did, there's no way my father could expect me to get my hands on her.

Shame slices through me. Deep and hard.

I do not cry or cower… until I did.

Summary: After Xaden throws Dain and Brennan out of his room, Dain and Bren catch up or at least… they try to. Four days later, Violet wakes up. ~ 4,000 words. Spilt POV: Dain and Vi

"And now I'm going to die without truly knowing if you've made it." I close my eyes. Without knowing if it was worth it.

The cold of the manacles seeps deeper, as does the phantom burning through my veins.

A memory flashes through my mind, Violet laughing and barefoot in the sunflower gardens."You're so alike. Beautiful. Vibrant. Steady," I murmur. "Just… don't follow the light."

Bootsteps echo faintly in the distance. I don't move. I lean my forehead against the cold stone and let the darkness press it.
