Lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture that mimics the movement of a lion. It is often performed at Chinese New Year and other Chinese festivals to bring good fortune. Gifs above are of Chinese Southern Lions in Fo Shan, Guangdong. The Shifu using a brush to dot the lion is known as “awakening of the lion” ceremony, to wake the lion for performance. Below is what the Shifu will shout out in the ceremony.

一点天庭 福星高照 国泰民安

二点眼睛 眼观六路 鹏程万里

三点口利 笑口常开 大吉大利

四点铁角 钢筋铁骨 顶天立地

五点耳朵 耳听八方 左右逢源

六点头尾 六六大顺 由头顺到尾

Rough translations:

First to the heavens, good fortunes and peace.

Second to the eyes, eyes wild and bright future.

Third to the mouth, always smiling and bring good luck.

Forth to the iron horns, bones of steel and indestructible.

Fifth to the ears, ears in all directions and success all around.

Sixth from head to tail, everything goes smoothly from head to tail.
