In TFA verse, Jazz is actually old enough to have fought in the war, though he doesn’t act as ancient as some others who had done the same. 

He was actually on the front lines when he got the news that his father had been murdered and his most recent student was missing. He’s elected not to think of that, though.

Stormrunner couldn’t help the slight scoff that escaped him, clawed servos pausing in his sorting of various tools and supplies. “I think,” he began, digits tapping ever-so-lightly on the table, “we’re far past playing fair in this war.” 

He turned to face the other mecha, wings twitching slightly as he looked them over. “Are you alright? I usually don’t see anybody other than the medics around here unless they’re wounded.”

KnockOut tilted his helm to the side. A confused look crossing over his face as he placed his servos comfortably on his hips. Luckily he was standing far enough away that he didn’t have to crane his neck back.  “Not that I don’t think the new look is good Shockwave but... since when were you this tall? && not locked in stasis?”
