“Don’t be an idiot. Those cuts could get infected if you aren’t careful, sit down.” She probably sounded like a concerned mother hen scolding a child, sitting Lefou down so he was a little below eye level for her. Gently touching the side of his face that had received the brunt of the injuries.
“You’re lucky this isn’t any worse, it could have left you blind ya know.” She would know. Martha was mostly blind on her left side, with some scarring on her face to show where something sharp had cut across her eye many years before; the scarring only visible because she was so close to Lefou.
Taking a small washcloth out of the bag around her hips, she used her wineskin to wet it with some water before starting to clean up her friend’s face.
“Why did you get into that fight, anyway?” She hadn’t heard what the other villager said, having arrived only when she heard the fight happening.
