The Xekaman River is fed from the picturesque Nong Fa Lake, which locals believe is sacred. It is surrounded in myths and legends and is said to be protected by a golden rooster that regulates the level of water in the lake and sometimes shines a light up through the waters. This water has magical properties. 4000 holes, Salavanh Province, Lao PDR by Explore Laos Via Flickr: Erosion over millions of years have caused peculiar formations in this area of Salavanh, known as the 4000 Holes. These types of formations are known as "giant's kettles" or "potholes", and are formed from water flowing over rocks and debris.
