The 1994 Indy 500 became known for Penske’s beast of an engine. Built by Ilmor in utter secrecy, it aimed to be purpose built for the 500 as at the time it was run under USAC rules (unlike the rest of the races) so the regulations were different. In particular, pushrod engines were allowed.

Mercedes eventually came on board and the engines were badged as such. After many hours of testing, the engine completed 500 uninterrupted miles, just a couple of weeks before the race.

It is said that they had more than 200 bhp over everyone else. Al Unser Jr, Emerson

Fittipaldi and Paul Tracy did a hell of a sandbagging job, all the way up until the green flag dropped.

Fittipaldi had almost a lap over Unser Jr when he crashed at the closing stages of the race. Unser Jr won with only 2nd placed car being on the lead lap.

Essentially making sacrificial lambs of them both to further an agenda.

Listening to music in a language you don’t know fluently is wild because I have no idea what the song is about but that beat? that voice? that saxophone?  It has me feeling and I love it.
