Just to let you know, that does make me a little uncomfortable because the "belong in" implies that I can't say "no" or have a boundary. The "made better by" implies that you're better than us. I think it implies we can't have boundaries or have our own thing and have it be great, mostly non-problematic. I think that's why you're getting blowback.

what's the great library about?

okay it’s an alternate history where the library of Alexandria was never destroyed, and has now expanded into a network of daughter libraries across the world. it has pretty much a complete monopoly on knowledge. owning original books is illegal.

Jess Brightwell, the main narrator, is a book smuggler, and his father pays for him to take the library’s entrance exam, in order to use him as an inside agent. so now Jess must keep what his family does for a living a secret, and try to survive training. easier said than done.

although Jess does a lot of the narrating, the book actually has a really strong ensemble cast, rather than one or two main characters and a handful of sidekicks. it also has well-written romantic and platonic relationships, a healthy dose of found family, a vaguely steampunk vibe, lots of great things to say about censorship and knowledge as power, no love triangles, and possibly one of my favorite fictional couples of all time.

Zarina. cool as hell ability (charger) and I admit I’m very curious about why she nearly resigned.

Bronte. grumpy elf man with one of the best character arcs in the series. what’s not to like?

Nolan. I feel like his ability as a vociferator could be really cool and would be fun to expand on in fan content.

Clarette. mostly I think she’s got good taste in gems (I love turquoise) and her ability to communicate with animals is also really neat!

what if indeed!

I think he’s described as moving awkwardly or weirdly at some point? but that could also just be the mental image I have of him.

anyway if he were dyspraxic, awkward movements would probably be the first thing anyone would notice about him. the best way I can describe how I move is that it’s like stuttering, except with my body instead of my words.

he sits on the floor a lot because of his narcolepsy, but also because he has bad balance and so it’s just easier

he has a hard time judging distance, so he walks into things, especially doorframes and furniture

side note: doorframes should be wider. I smack my arms on them a concerning amount because I keep thinking I have enough space to hold my arms out further

his handwriting is an absolute mess, and when he types instead, he has to correct a lot of typos (dyspraxia affects coordination and motor skills as well as spatial awareness)

top 5 sherlock holmes stories :)

*kicks feet and twirls hair* OH BOY

The Redheaded League. it’s a classic for a reason!! we’ve got a heist, a really good exploration of how Holmes manages mental health, awesome dialogue, and just a funky good time overall.

A Scandal in Bohemia. two words: Irene Adler. this story is remarkable in that it not only focuses on Holmes getting a case wrong, but also prominently features a female hero. Adler has been done dirty by so many adaptations, but the source material actually portrays her in a very interesting and positive light.

The Gloria Scott. it has Holmes backstory, pirates, an amazing description of 221b, and when read in a certain way, contains an excellent queer allegory.

The Hound of the Baskervilles. goddddd this book is so good!!! it’s got a perfect atmosphere for rainy days when you just want to disappear into an old gothic manor and find out some secrets.

Silver Blaze. this one’s just funny to me, and has a mystery that keeps you guessing and really pulled me in the first time I read it. normally I’m drawn to the characters first and plot second for these stories, but I really like this mystery.
